Kinda seems like most of this is Chad saying "I held it down for you when I was doing most of the work and you can't do the same for me with the NERD albums" and Pharrell just not taking the business dealing of NERD or the amount owed as seriously. He probably sees it as a meager amount or might even be too caught up in other s*** to have it on his radar. That doesn't excuse Pharrell entirely but it just doesn't make sense to be that malicious over that amount.

I guess they stopped being a duo at that time, and Pharrell most likely owns the rights to The Neptunes name. I mean, he owns the rights to Star Trak and everything else during that era. Sometimes I wonder if Chad is just mad at Pharrell for never letting him in on the business side of things during that time.

I look at it like this though, Pharrell treated Hugo like an employee, but as an employee, Chad never had to deal with shady music industry crap. Pharrell dealt with that, but he made the deals at the end of the day. Chad feeling the need to speak up now is his right, but most Hip Hop producers would dream of having a nonsense free career, at a high level, like Chad did.

this isnt strictly true becuase songwriting isn’t just lyrics and melodies / hooks. It’s also the music (chords and composition) that’s why composers are also songwriters.

And I’m telling you now, chad wrote most of the “music” in early days of the neptunes (particularly 95% of pre-2002 stuff cause P didn’t know how to play chords properly yet.).

Chad, but I don't agree with the idea that Chad was making all the beats during their prime. That's straight delusional. I definitely think Pharrell was as much of a key player to the Neptunes sound as much as Chad.
