The puzzling piece for me is Emily returning. Cus she didn’t do the 2nd one so I hope that means she loved the script that much.

I read either Dennis or the director of the 2nd movie said “each installment should be a new director” or some s*** like that. But I’m not sure why Taylor isn’t returning being this all originated from him.

Weirder still, Taylor actually had a draft for a third film way back - part of how he sold the original to Lionsgate was that he had treatments for two sequels, in fact.

After Sicario 2 and sometime around the time of Dune 2, there was also an interview with Denis where he said he had read a draft for Sicario 3 by Taylor, and he liked it so much he wanted to try and fit it in before he did his eventual third Dune film.

Eventually the whole thing happened with him deciding he "wanted to get back out to the desert" asap or however he phrased it, and then he fast tracked Dune 3. I had assumed that Lionsgate would either find someone else to direct Taylor's third Sicario film, or that he would do it himself, so I have no idea why Steven Knight's suddenly in the mix here.

Del toro is the main character of the second one

Yup I heard Taylor had a drafted for part 3 which is wild to me. I’m wondering what happen to make them go with a different writer.

Maybe the producers wanted the script to go in a different direction that Taylor wasn’t feeling so they hired Steven?
