but drake was on the come up and made SFG. kanye was on the come up and made TCD. there was no unlimited budget back then

also I guarantee you you can put all these guys in the studio without a drake/kanye and you arent getting any IYRTITL or MBDTF

True, but argument is wrongly constructed, it's like asking writer of Strangers in the Night why he didn't make an album with All or Nothing at All on it.

I mean thats the topic of the thread

Personally i dont really care cause hes my favorite artist

But him having writers disqualifies him from the "Best Rapper" category

I think Ye himself never aimed to be the best rapper imo

He always aimed for the more artistically way and thats why I'm kinda surprised he's still doing rap records like this. I wasn't surprised when he told us that he wanted to stop with rap and wanted to do a sing/melodic record in 2019 because he clearly loves to sing nowadays and he improved massively with that

Jail is literally a rock/industrial pop anthem

  • Sep 8, 2021

should OP stop making threads if he can’t even write the titles in proper English?

I think Kanye is genius - that's set in stone, at least for CD, LR, GRAD, 808, WTT, MBDTF, like even if I cut all the albums where who write what becomes muddy, it's still 6 classics, not counting classic beats that he made.
General public doesn't know even 10% of the s*** that we know like these demos and reference tracks and it doesn't give a f***, the same as it did after Drake was exposed, only people who still care about that are probably some dustheads.
I wasn't sleeping from like 2 am to 7 am for every LP that he did for Donda, if this doesn't count as being a fan then I don't know what is.
Any person on here who geniunely likes Kanye will say to you that beats where he the most hands on and lyrics that he actually wrote are the most awesome ones, so we are not discrediting him.

Edit: except Yeezus is also certified classic incredible perfect album

One of the most misunderstood artists ever in my opinion.

He's in the same lane as MJ, Prince etc. People will love him (even more) if he's not on this earth anymore unfortunately. We can't change that.

Yes brother I thought exactly this too recently that’s the sad truth

Of course you are a fan, but my criticism of many Kanye fans is that they criticise him too much, you should really appreciate what level of artist you are a fan of.

Some(!) people in Russia say: We criticize Putin not because he is Putin, but because he is not Putin enough.
I guess I feel the same about Kanye sometimes.

This is were he talks about hip hop competing with other genres who have a slew of writers.

    Pce, got work to do!

No. It doesn’t matter who wrote the song, the lyrics, anything. Only thing that matters is the finished product.

Kanye literally doesnt have a pen

KMSA has Royce reference vocals in it

Of course he has a pen. Not at the level of the most elite rappers, but to say he doesn't have a pen is absurd. And I guarantee you he writes a lot more than you give him credit for.

  • He's written and produced more great music for himself and others than most artists we talk about on ktt ever will.

Nothing can take away from that. But it's always been a reality that the way he's managed to be so prolific for so long is by using more and more writers and producers.

I think it's fair to say albums like the College Dropout are more 'solo' efforts than most rap albums. He produced almost every beat, if he only wrote a few verses on Dropout, then he'd have already written more of his album himself than artists who only rap or only produce.

since Grad then it's become less and less 'solo'. I think the turning point was around 08-2010. that was also when he became less essential to other artist's music too.

I'm sure we still get some great writing from Ye though, you'll just never be able to trust where it is. People say he wrote NMPILA and that he produced a few beats on Daytona himself, for example.

    Nooooooooo.
That’s a good part of the verse.
    Bro, this news sucks.

Does it really affect your enjoyment ? Would you prefer his bars reflect recent interviews?

  • Sep 8, 2021

I don’t really mind I think Kanye is really just more a producer and collector or vibes than a singer-songwriter and has been pretty much since MBDTF

Kanye literally doesnt have a pen

KMSA has Royce reference vocals in it

even if he only wrote a handful of raps entirely on his own for his early albums, he'd still have an amazing pen.

I think 2018 was probably the point where he was writing less than ever. But he did make some solo beats then for Push

yeah u can hear like 100 different people worked on donda, its super unfocused

    Whats up

Honestly doesn’t bother me. Rhymefest wrote most of Jesus Walks and that’s an amazing song. As long as the music sounds good idc honestly

I'm pretty sure Rhymefest only wrote some of the first verse.

But even if he wrote all the lyrics. Kanye made the beat with no coproducers and it's one of the best songs musically in his discography.

That should count as writing half the song. Kanye only has to have written a few lines and he's written most of the song.

Beatmakers are songwriters. Like how in Elton John music he does the instrumental, Bernie writes the lyrics for him. On Dropout, that's Kanye's process at the very least. And I feel like he probably wrote songs like All Falls Down himself

all these people supposedly making him classics with no classics of their own

like where is cyhi's dark fantasy or consequence's TCD?

Loads of classic songwriters never have hits as performers. I don't get this argument. Look at Paul Williams or Burt Bacharach or Max Martin.

  • Sep 8, 2021

agreed op but I mean, I've listened to Up from the Ashes demo, and there is Rooga's reference track for Jesus Lord, Kaycyy wrote 24(?), I'm so fed up with this, Kanye doesn't write rappy raps, he doesn't write songy songs either, so what the hell does he do, mumbling, dude.
Just work on some production (with your 100+ army of co-producers) and that's all, say that you came up with the concept of this person called Kanye West and all songs are about him, sang by people who wrote them.

You could put all of his writers and producers in one room but without Kanye's vision they wouldn't be able to put together something as good as MBDTF or Yeezus
