Ngl my opinion also formed from watching and reading about Soviet cinema all the time. Grim, fascinating world. So much potential crushed by Stalin in the 30s and Brezhnevs committees in the 60s-70s. Krushchev was on one though. (I know this doesn't always directly equate to how they were actually governing on a local or geopolitical level at said times)

i believe the ussr deserves credit for its critical role in defeating nazi germany, but i don’t think they’re above criticism for awful things they also did, like Katyn massacre, and the invasions of Hungary and Czechoslovakia.

It’s a case of chesterton fence, i wouldn’t idealise them or even praise them more than i had to, and i know many are happy to be free, but what came next was in many ways worse in certain places
