So, I can agree that in the case of Kirk, it does go beyond just having an opinion. With Turning Point and his relationship with the Trump administration he actually had political power without being a politician himself. I will say that I don’t think that nuance matters to most of the people celebrating, I think a lot of them would celebrate the murder of anyone with those beliefs - even those without any political power. And whether that’s right or not is up to you, I don’t think it is but hey I’m just some guy

But let’s be honest here - how many conservatives do you think saw the video and the posts celebrating it, and said to themselves “i didnt realize this was a consequence, I’m going to think more like these people”

This is not going to shift people to the left, this is going to radicalize the right. They aren’t discussing on the right how they should maybe stop sharing their beliefs, they’re talking about this like it’s an act of war. The celebratory posts add fuel to that fire.

I also don’t think the possible benefit of showing people these real world consequences is worth the trade off of showing bad people that murder will make them heroes. Cause that’s gonna go both ways and it won’t just be politicians and streamers that feel the effects of that. Like, yeah if I was a leftist streamer I’d be pretty concerned right now. But, if this shooter turns out to be trans, I really fear for the violence that everyday trans people might face as a result.
