You can’t really listen to one or two songs off this. It’s a front to back classic with NO filler. Crazy Forward thinking production all over this. This is how you do experimental rap

Talk about this album
I hated this album on first listen but when I gave it one more try a few months later I fell in love. Ish’s writing style is so tough. It’s poetic af
Frankly, I think they peaked right here on this album. Everything after this hasn’t been nearly as good. Erik blood should f*** off, and ish should involve tendai in the production side more. That reverb drenched s*** they doin now is not it
absolute classic album, staple in experimental hip hop
I find that most experimental rap leans on that noisy sound collage s*** (no diss but it’s not my cup of tea) but this one did something really different. It’s still jazzy and rhythmic. You can hear that digable planets influence all over this

You know what? Ima have to revoke my statement. I love Shabazz palaces but i was more infatuated with the idea of them before I found out Ishmael Butler was behind the group. I thought it was some young dudes doing some experimental s***.
I also saw them live when they first came out and the show was mad boring.
Ishmel is still amazing tho. Definitely underrated.

I went to a show of theirs and it was decent. Pretty much what I expected. They didn’t do much improv, which I think is the highlight of their shows imo
Ish being this old guy but still doing futuristic s*** makes it more interesting to me lmao but I feel you

Been pretty much obsessed with this band for years. Black Up and Lese Majesty are f***ing classics and nobody's gonna tell me otherwise.
