so im assuming that "Cold Harbor" is going to be where Gemma experiences drowning or death. (that mudslide drowning vs suffocating question). So the refiners are rewiring the brains natural response to traumatic/painful experiences, and once the file is finished, that "experience" is covered by the Severance chip, and the brain's natural response to this experience has been rewritten. The Senator who supports severance probably got some early access for his wife at the birthing cabins because of his support. unsure where the Doctor with the christmas sweater fits into all of this, and where Burt fits into it, but thats what I got from this episode.

    LEFTOVERS SPOILERS UNDER HERE.

this episode gave me some late Leftovers vibes: ego death, the biblical symbolism, killing a part of yourself thats stuck with grief so that you are able to move on in the present, etc.

The end goal of Severance is to go on as long as possible with a lot of vague scenarios so you have to guess what's happening as they add layers upon layers of meaningless events.

I'm probably buggin but my theory at the end was Gemma actually died, but they somehow preserved her consciousness. That's why when she went down the elevator she became Ms. Casey? So Gemma is actually an innie now and Ms. Casey is the physical representation that they created or something idk

f***ing insane. one of the most impressive directional debuts ever ??

this show has always had incredible direction but i think this ep was a step above the rest

I do not think it's a coincidence that...

Allentown was the name of the file Mark S completed in a single day. Allentown was the name of the room with the Christmas theme. One of the flashbacks we are shown (are we seeing Mark's memories as he's unconscious?) is of him and Gemma at Christmas

The Christmas trees in both the Allentown room and Mark's memory are similar in that they have hanging tinsel

they’re definitely related. those testing rooms mirrored the memories with certainty

The tinsels look like the Liberty Bell which is located in Allentown & was hiding for 9 months during the revolutionary war.

  • Best episode so far

I thought that the way they handled the flashbacks was remarkable.

Like, Gemma and Marks relationship was just so perfectly explained and told with such little dialogue.

You could tell they were stressed very stressed due to the difficulties with conceiving a child, but you could also still feel the love between the two, still ever so present, just slightly rattled.

idk it’s simple s\*\*\* but I just thought they did a really good job at conveying that level of tricky emotion through the screen
