We will definitely never get any other movie like that, we should appreciate every bit we get from it

Crazy that for such a long movie, I have the urge to watch it at least 2 more times before the year is over

Truly a masterwork from one of the most legendary directors ever

this felt like the fastest 3+ hour movie I’ve sat through in a while. But I also don’t think it’s a bad thing for a movie to feel slow, sometimes there’s a beautiful effect that comes out of that. Like what Silence felt like. It’s such a slow moving film and yet it’s so hypnotic to watch.

Yeah this killed me takes absolutely nothing away from the movie but was goddamn hilarious

His other amazing kills make up for it

That diner hit will never be topped

Scorsese is in his IDGAF mode with that diner scene

Man just casually described to us how to murder somebody in full detail

The movie just stays too goddamn entertaining thanks to the high velocity performances for nearly the entire movie to have a chance to get bored honestly

It’s great that Netflix gave all the budget for it but also didn’t force him to cut it down, this feels so uncompromising and that’s a relief

Yeah it's crazy, Silence is almost an hour shorter but the experience of watching it absolutely digs into your soul, every moment is emotionally exhausting and at the end of it you feel this beautiful release.

Irishman meanwhile sucks you in so quick and you're just a part of it before you know it, the time flies right by.

Shout out Harvey Keitel, he doesn’t get much but he works that b**** like a boss, even tho you knew it wasn’t the end of DeNiro’s character, when he was asked to come in, you felt that s***

Bruh.. after he went through all that detail I thought it was gonna be a slightly disappointing murder because he just did all that explaining but this dude went in and turned into a John Woo movie yet so effortlessly and clean, I have never seen a mf kill someone that smooth then just walk out the other door and into a car

Like I saw this in theaters and then literally rewatched it a week later, which I literally NEVER do (ive only done it for Interstellar and Public Enemies) and it never occurred to me that I spent 7 hours on this movie. Its so detailed and fascinating to watch in so many ways. Both times I was super interested in the historical subtext and the politics, but there’s just so much to get out of so many characters that it felt just as fresh watching it the 2nd time. Nothing really felt slow. Ironically, the detroit sequence and everything after moved the fastest for me despite being a clear slow down from everything before. I think it’s because s*** had me so gutted on rewatch.

Watching Silence in a theater is just one of the most sublime experiences I’ve had watching a film. Because everything about it just makes you want to get up and pause it. And yet once you just accept it, it literally just digs into your soul and you become apart of it.

As much as I hate on Netflix, this is easily the greatest decision made by any studio this decade. Maybe this century.

I can’t think of one bad thing about this and I haven’t had that in a while

Maybe the texts saying how such and such died, prolly would’ve added a tiny spicy flavor of short action cut to show a quick kill off? I mean for the ones that had the suspicious deaths

Altho we get enough kills so it’s not like that bad, again the movie doesn’t feel like a slow burn at all to me

I’m just trying to think of something haha

Man this movie IS a gift huh

@MrYeezy that entire last act was moving way too fast for me too, I felt the runtime trickling away even though it was clearly “slow” compared to the rest of the pacing — the way he emphasized aging after Frank committed what would be his most regrettable sin and focused on him being introspective to everything that happened up until it, his views on current society moving fast, him trying so hard to reclaim lost time with his children. It’s almost like a joke but frank lost his entirely life before he knew it and had been like a pawn ever since he joined the war until now but he didn’t find any remorse he could fully express for his actions. I wouldn’t be surprised if he just legit truly didn’t care and like he said, he feared dying in the war, his only fear in life and at that time during the ending was simply death. He didn’t accept it. He was coping to try and accept the fact he would be gone soon but was even so afraid that he didn’t want to be cremated just on the off chance he had an afterlife. IMO, that nigga is a f***ing demon and one of the most savage anti-hero’s in all of cinema.

In all seriousness the movie is not bad, just felt like everything was forced to me.

The acting was definitely a struggle tho and the trash CGI was hard to get over.

Maybe, looking back at it in a few years it will be different. But I doubt it will stand the test of time.

tbh I normally rate perfect scores out of the emotion I feel from watching a film because I think every film is flawed and even if something is close to perfect or even perfect, that doesn’t necessarily mean it will resonate with you

But this movie was very moving and at the same time I can think of any flaw with it. Even things like the actors looking way too old when they 30-40 make sense when you realize it’s from a 90 yo Sheerans recollection

Ain’t no damn way that’s historically accurate lol so many of them got blown up like it was nothing
