What strategy have you tried that actually helped you get a job, or at least got your foot in the door with an interview?
I'm trying to write cover letters for all applications these days, and I think my resume is pretty damn polished. I guess I'm just not matching up to the other candidates? I'm still getting my BA at 29 years old but I'm almost done and I have plenty of good experience otherwise.
It's crazy, you try to call or visit these companies in-person to hand deliver your application and hopefully meet the hiring manager, but the front desk will turn you away and tell you to submit online like everyone else. How do you get an edge up and not just be one out of a million?
I'd f***ing love a hybrid or remote role but it feels even more competitive and out of reach
I'm a marketing manager, btw. Trying to get a job that's similar to my current one, or transition into an agency role so I can hone in on one or two key skills
Yea i always personalize the cover letter
If i can follow up with a greeting email
Ive applied to prpbably 7-8 jobs so far an got 2 interviews
I also took great reaches with the resume, like idk javascript at all rly but its on my resume cus i did a javascript project 7 years ago
Lie lie lie and boast yourself up
dont forget them interview question prep. they finna try to catch u off guard with questions like "whats ur biggest weakness" or "describe a time you made a mistake" or "whats a misunderstanding people have about you"
i f***ed that last question up so hard my last interview. basically admitted im quiet as f***
Look for something outside Tech and lower your expectations. Unless you are a director level or a rockstar senior manager with great references, they are not hiring junior/entry/mid-level positions.
Drop the cover letter
Send out as many applications as possible. Its a numbers game
Lie about the numbers in current role, covertly put yourself open to work on linkedin, not the banner thats desperate, then allow the recruiters to come to you it works
Think imma need to put myself out there next year to get a better role for more money
I’m dreading it tbh

y drop the cover letter
Put job listing buzzwords in your resume. Send a thank you letter after interview. Don’t negotiate salary unless you’re okay with being passed on
y drop the cover letter
No one reading that s*** I promise
If a recruiter looks at your CV and likes/doesn’t like what they see, a cover letter won’t do much to sway their opinion

Cover letters are still valid imo cause it’s a numbers game
If they like your CV and like your cover letter, it’s a win win
If they like your CV but you have no cover letter it’s just a win
2 wins is always greater than 1
