For one, very very different times back then regarding mass public shootings. Two, the Black Panthers entire M.O. as an organization was from a defensive approach against systemic racism and particularly police brutality.
I wouldn’t even necessarily be against an organized armed protest with a clear nuanced political message today. And if trans people within a community were constantly being physically abused, I wouldn’t be against groups of armed protectors ensuring those trans people were safe from physical violence.
Offensive threats of violence need to be taken seriously, however. “Give me this….or else” with pictures of 7 guns is very poor messaging and a threat. And even that is kind of tame compared to what individuals of multiple different groups say on social media and in public. Those people should be watched closely and probably disarmed is all I’m saying.

Also, noticing the trend of helpless victims who have no authority or influence on anything isn’t insensitive, it’s just an observation. It’s not hard to figure out why they don’t go after important public figures, policymakers etc. though: lack of access, funds to travel, wherewithal to essentially stalk their prey, and so on.
