I thought he rapped well on here and a lot better than he has the last couple years, So a good step forward. But i still think theres some pretty rough bars on here and just some kinda washed flows that he always keeps in his bag for comfort. Really i am glad to see him rapping over production like this (that might be out of the oridnary for a lot of his fans) & also doing some work with Jcole is great to see as a hip hop fan
I disagree. I don’t think there are any songs you can point to from Drake recently that have schemes and flows as complex as this. 8am in Charlotte is more of an example of what you’re talking about in terms of “washed flows that he always keeps in his bag for comfort.” These aren’t that at all. All these schemes are fresh and kept me guessing which direction he would take the flow the entire time. As far as the bars and subject matter it’s on brand as expected, they hit for me don’t really know what you mean by “rough bars”.
