We can compare and contrast some of the different eras of rap, some of it's finest moments and darkest hours unfortunately by Substance use, and some of the MC's that made them notable..
If you had the option of keeping just one of these rappers' associated d*** era from their career, life, and its influence on the genre overall, which one would you choose? while the others are deleted from existence forever.
1. Mac Miller's general foray into substance.
Obviously no disrespect to the legend. I wouldn't necessarily put him in any particular box or say there's any one substance of choice that he's associated with, but he was definitely open about his foray into that world and how it affected his music. From tapes like Macadelic, WMWTSO, maybe even the Larry Lovestein stuff, and to me a crowning jewel of his discography, Faces, he would undoubtedly have been a quite different mc and artist overall to me. and Even though it would deprive me of some of my favorite music, it would be worth it if he was alive today..

2. Lil Wayne's infamous 'Lean era'. You can argue it never really ended, but when I say his lean era, I mean the Early 2000s to mid 2010s where it was most controversial. Wayne was called an addict, had seizures, and would dedicate many songs to the purple substance, he was never seen without a double styrofoam cup in that time period, and despite it being a dangerous game, you could argue that a lot of his most iconic tracks and tapes were made while he used lean heavily.. and overall, the impact that his lean era had on what we see in the game is pretty undeniable.

3. Snoop Dogg and weed overall. Kinda self explanatory, but just imagining the ripple effect on not only his discography but image and how much weed is accepted within Hip-Hop and US Culture in general if it didn't have the affable, chill, perennially cool spokesman in Snopp Doggy Dogg... Even if he was still having chart topping hits, but no 'weed anthems', and no associated references to it outside of his work on the Chronic with Dre, so you get him on The Next Episode, but no smoking references on songs like Gin & Juice, Young, Wild & Free, Need A Light, etc. Obviously he'd still be one of the GOATS just for his impact on the game, but his persona would be entirely different.

I can’t put down the cup
His Ozempic era gonna be crazy
Loose skin like shopping bags hanging from him
