“Is a 10/10 trap album on par with a 10/10 conscious rap album?”

“I think the highest a trap album can reach is an 8/10”

You don’t see the racial undertones there?

It’s like when white people describe a place or setting or person as ratchet or ghetto and then you ask them to explain what they mean by that

It’s dumb but it’s not racist
How is race involved in this?

Clearly a conscious record is going to more than likely tackle difficult social problems

While a trap record is going to more than likely talk about d**** and sticking diamonds in women’s butts (yeah future for example can get emotional, but if he did that a whole record at that point is it even trap?)

One topic just has more passion for lack of better word

  • Apr 30, 2022

All in all tho I wouldn’t really care if DS2 and TPAB are both 10’s

    It’s like comparing a punk rock 10/10 to a Jazz fusion 10/10

It’s just not easy to draw comparisons

Like a trap album just has different goals than a conscious record….

I’m not gonna play dumb though and act like I can’t see why someone would put conscious rap over trap music acting like there’s not thousands of old heads

It is racist. Trap albums do talk about things that are important and relevant to people that are either living that life or came from that life.

Just because white people can’t relate or can’t uplift it because it’s not tackling societal issues on a widespread scale doesn’t mean it’s not important and relevant to entire demographic of people.

Also, the idea that rap music is worth more only when there’s a positive message behind it is inherently racist too.

Content is relative. Someone from certain places will feel the trap content has way more passion than a conscious record.

    Subject matter isn’t objective

    This!

We need to destroy this idea that conscious rap in inherently more important for everyone, because it’s not. I know people that relate to and are moved by a Future album way more than a Cole or Kendrick album

    Zack From The Six

Tems is the only irreplaceable feature, the rest of them got smoked by Future on the tracks and the songs would probably be better if they were solo tracks

Replace the best feature on the album

You don’t see the problem with that?

Reducing an entire sub-genre to an automatic score behind everything else isn’t off to you?

But his opinion is subjective to and you’re taking it like it’s objective

He said highest he’d give a trap album is an 8/10? What’s even and about that? That’s just one persons lukewarm take

I mean I would say country music is no higher than a 5/10 and there’s allot of who people would disagree……

    Same thing right?

Asking this question means you missed the whole point lol. What’s I think is “passionate” might not be the same to someone else.

Future - Hate the real me’ is way more relatable to me and deeper than any conscious rap record could ever be for me.

This coming from someone who grew up a lupe stan too.

Like I get the part that he’s limiting trap music from “perfect score” but at the same time I think people itt just love their genre and want to defend it……but again calling it racist is just surface deep energy

That’s because you’re not a fan of country music.

Trap is still rap music, these guys like trap. So it’s not that they’re not fans, they’re just automatically reducing its’ worth because it doesn’t have content they can relate to nor that they deem “positive” .

It’s like film fans saying a superhero movie can be no higher than a 7/10. Why is that? A great movie is a great movie.

Nah I get where you’re coming from but in all my years listening to trap music I’ve always felt a subtle racist energy from some white people when they criticize it. The words they use and the energy they give to critique it just feels like they don’t respect it as a subgenre of music
