I actually don't really dislike DAMN that much. It's a solid 7-8/10 album but people acted as if it was some sort of revelatory masterpiece and one of the greatest hip-hop albums of all time. I think at one point not long after release it was the highest rated rap album ever on metacritic. It was considered hate just to say it was a bit of a disappointment and a step down from his previous two. I realized that anything Kendrick does is going to get glazed to an insane degree and his "you need a certain level of intelligence"-ass fanbase just turned me off of him completely.

It did start with Cole but I always felt it was unironically more applicable to Kendrick’s fanbase that spend all day breaking down quadruple entendres on genius and writing theories on Reddit. It’s a fanbase full of English teachers explaining why the curtains are blue.
