HaroldsChickenyou don't just play what music you want to hear with them rather than radio? I am grown but radio music in general men and women in rap be too sexual or misognyistic to just chill hearing with sister
When I’m sharing the car with someone I think it’s courteous to play songs that everyone in the car can enjoy, or I just offer them the aux
But I’m saying sometimes when I’m with my mom or sister I make sure not to play nun wild, and if anything super misogynistic slips thru it can be pretty awkward

I’m saying the music isn’t perpetuating the lifestyle as much as people are acting like it is, these people were trapped in this lifestyle long before they could even understand rap lyrics
However I do believe that explicit lyrics about dogging women and killing niggas can lead ppl to believe that the lifestyle is normal

BRAVEAll of this has always existed in the genre, but the weird thing is how now, the latter half of 2022, is when it becomes a talking point outside of the culture. I think half of it is the already growing pushback against hiphop’s fundamental problematic elements that traditionally would’ve been brushed away with “it’s just a reflection of culture…” under the guise of “but it’s OUR culture and we need to protect it, good and bad”. Idk if anyone else has noticed, but this generation doesn’t have the same sense of treating hiphop as sacred - there’s a vocal disdain for hiphop’s negativity that left black people branded oldheads or coons for calling out
There’s another half of this as well: this years discussions on gender wars/redpilling. And with hiphop being the biggest genre, it’s bound to be included in this discussion, and its misogynistic elements almost retrofitted to be a part of a recent trend (ie what the title of the article does)
