And why is it always a hip hop problem but it’s never a rock music problem? Nobody out here writing think pieces about how big of creeps and pedos rock artists have been since the 50s and using it as a means to say THIS GENRE AS A WHOLE NEEDS TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE
you only see hip hop get treated like this
swear bro i’m sick of it
so it’s not left in the past is it?
cmon bro don’t do this
there are so many misogynistic artists in that space, whether it be in music or outside of it
seems like rolling stone should focus on that if u ask me
I say rolling stones work on closing its doors same with pitchfork
Like we not going to stop listening cause of the lyrics but saying these artist dont deserve to be called out is delusional
Doesn't matter if you call them out when s*** won't change either way. If anything, a Drake or a Future might see this piece and decide to triple down on their next albums.
All of this has always existed in the genre, but the weird thing is how now, the latter half of 2022, is when it becomes a talking point outside of the culture. I think half of it is the already growing pushback against hiphop’s fundamental problematic elements that traditionally would’ve been brushed away with “it’s just a reflection of culture…” under the guise of “but it’s OUR culture and we need to protect it, good and bad”. Idk if anyone else has noticed, but this generation doesn’t have the same sense of treating hiphop as sacred - there’s a vocal disdain for hiphop’s negativity that left black people branded oldheads or coons for calling out
There’s another half of this as well: this years discussions on gender wars/redpilling. And with hiphop being the biggest genre, it’s bound to be included in this discussion, and its misogynistic elements almost retrofitted to be a part of a recent trend (ie what the title of the article does)
Every discussion around art gets elevated by media publications and through the social media feedback loop into this dramatic culture war narrative when in reality most of the content of any given song or film goes in one ear and out the other for average people.

They tried it in the 90s it was just brushed off because everything was blamed on the rock artist being "satanist"

That would be hilarious coming from Drake

Fellas did Megan ruin RAP?
Don't hype these crackers up wit that
Enormously real s*** I’m still frustrated by Rex Orange County already on the path to being forgiven
Didn't the persons partner who was there day it didn't happen to the police and Rex provide video evidence from a security cam proving it

Exactly. This s*** is interwoven into the very fibre of the art form. It's been here since the very beginning. Listeners aren't complaining so why would any change happen? It's ridiculous.
Preachy/"good" rap has never been the most popular brand of rap music and it'll never he.

misogyny in lyrics is not the same as sexual misconduct by musicians. its clearly a different topic even tho its related, its about the actual content of the artistic expression vs conduct of the musicians. and your original post i thought you were talking about the content of the music because that's what this thread is about
and do you really want me to post a list of articles talking about this topic? or do you just take my word for it lol. s*** like accusations to past musicians, current ones, s*** about the "indie" scene being male dominated, all that type of stuff has been all over pitchfork and rolling stone type publications for years now
im not really disagreeing with hip hop being unfairly singled out a lot of the time (for decades now) if thats what you were thinking

No one cares about Rock music anmore it's not nearly as big as Hip Hop and Hip Hop has a far more specific influence m.
Rock music has terrible artist but ain't no point did it have a period like Drill and s*** like that where music was essentially a confession of real murder.
I hate the comparison of Rock and Hip Hop because it's do disingenuous you Niggas know damn well rock didn't have nearly this many artist killing each other this way.
Niggas are literally murdering each other and then making record out of it thats beyond rock music or any genre.

ur right. They wont change, which is very telling on the type of people they are. That being said im no one to police someones art.
Doing things I taught you, gettin' nasty for someone else
You don't need no one else
You don't need nobody else, no
Why you never alone
Why you always touching road
Used to always stay at home, be a good girl
You was in the zone, yeah
You should just be yourself
Right now, you're someone else
I don't know, maybe I'm dumb or a closetted misogynist but I think every body has felt this way about someone they've recently been broken up with.
Both men and women.

I can almost bet that Drake's next album will be even more "problematic." Everytime people have s*** on him for doing something, he always doubles down.
He drops Views and every critic calls it boring/too long because it has 20 songs and what does he do? His next two projects have 22 and 25 songs respectfully
He doesn't give a f***, that's why all this anger being sent his way isn't gonna do what they think it's gonna do. He'll just use it as fuel to lean even harder into this new villain era lol.

How much u felt like telling ur partner to be a good girl/boy ?
ur right. They wont change, which is very telling on the type of people they are. That being said im no one to police someones art.
That's why all of this is as simple as: if you don't like it, don't listen.
There's dozens of other genres of music out there to dabble in.

I could have sworn he eventually said scorpion could've used a little bit of trimming in an interview, unless I misremembered
