Drake has ALWAYS been misogynistic. He has ALWAYS had lyrics that were "problematic" as far as how he described his relationships with women and how he treated them. The "nice guy" persona is something people threw on Drake because he's a well-spoken biracial dude who looks safe.

He has always been s***ting on women in his lyrics. Always. People just chose to not acknowledge it.

This true but that megan line was abit further than he usually goes, so i think thats why this is being spoken on now

But im not a big drake stan so maybe he does go that far more often?

this is gonna feel like a cop out, but yes that is rap culture not black culture. I just don’t want to attribute toxicity (from any side) with a race of my kind. it is far reaching and you have tons of black people that condemn those kind of lyrics in rap music more than people who support it

I don’t deny that women get more pass with their lyrics than men, but it’s just the proximity of power here

I get that but these articles aren't referencing any white rappers and the percentage of black mainstream compared to white ones is like 99% to 1% so yes, blackness has to be centered here.

And don't do that. Men calling women b****es/hoes doesn't hurt women in any real way. Most of these mainstream rappers have women make up almost half of their fanbase most of the time and they fully support their music every way they can so clearly, they're cool with it because on some level, they know it's just art.

I don't disagree. I love Hotline Bling but thought it was some creep s*** way back in 2015.

It's about branding. Drake has a more clean cut image than Future and a huge platform so he catches flack.

I'm honestly surprised they even bothered bringing Future into this because finger wagging at the guy in 2022 is so pointless. What are you listening to a Future album for if you're trying to avoid misogyny?

The fact that one multiple-entendre line by Drake has them doing this much highlights how stupid they all are.

They're acting like Drake is ONLY JUST NOW having lines in music that talks down on women. That's something he has done his whole career but they didn't care even as recently as on CLB, which dropped last year.

Soon as it was a line they took to be about a female celeb they care about, now it's time to cancel Drake lmao. It's all so ridiculous. That's why I can never take s*** like this seriously.

I don't think Drake talks "down on women". At least not in anyway that is worse than rap as whole. I think if we really a***yzed it, he would be in the camp of people who do it the least.

And I agree, this criticism is gettings clicks off the Meg thing. But I wonder if after they're done w/ Drake, will they focus on Keem and Carti and everyone else. Or is this just pretending to be pro women by hating Drake.

No, it wasn't. It was a basic line that people did too much with and they only did that because people care about Megan. If he said the same thing to another female who wasn't famous and they didn't give a f*** about, no one would care. Plus, he has said a lot worse s*** that no one got upset about.

Literally doesn’t matter if they’re done with Drake he’s not going anywhere

It’s always men b****ing about how Drake needs to talk about women better and it’s always white people trying to say he’s fake or can’t rap or whatever

Whatever outlets like RS say isn’t affecting Drake in the slightest

now THIS is a good point

this takes me back to when Hotline Bling dropped when i was in high school and i said the song was misogynistic. all my classmates, esp the shorties, looked at me like i was crazy

All I'm saying is keep the same energy. If something is bad for one person, it's bad for everyone. Don't wait till a rapper you don't like says something you take as a shot at a female rapper you like to start writing self-righteous pieces about how he has suddenly manifested himself as a vicious woman-hating monster who should be stopped because then you start to look ridiculous.

People wrote so many fake angry pieces about Drake/Her Loss that even people who don't f*** with Drake like that started calling it out lmao.

But this is all a reflection of the times we live in. Everyone is fake woke and feels the need to overcompensate by being fake mad at everything so they're seen as good/righteous.

  • Sounds like the author of this article is the one who needs to stop listening to rap music, rather than ask the biggest artists in the genre to change their lyrical content

that and also the fact that Drake is the #1 rapper in the world. simply being in that position subjects him to way more criticism than everyone else whether it’s actually valid or not bc he’s the poster boy of the genre

it’s the same way with how Beyoncé got picked apart for having the word “spaz” in one of her songs. but if she was a legacy act or indie-level artist, no one would have given a f***

They won't. Drake is the biggest name in rap and one of the biggest names in music/culture in general. He's as big a figure as they can go at to get their clicks and engagement so it'll end with him.
