I mean, you'd want ppl to glaze it even if its bad?

No, but i really, really doubt it's gonna be bad. I'm more saying no matter how good it is you're gonna have some pick me contrarians.

  • Idk if GTA VI theme song will top this tbh

Negativity is so prevalent that this joint could get penalized for s*** that its previous entry didn't even do right or did way worse

Negativity and criticism aren't the same though

Its also a decade plus removed from the previous entry, with a whole other game in between that provided a RATHER LARGE stepping stone for a generational leap in design. If the series has recurring problems, I think its fair to point them out

Agreed. The former can influence the latter though

Im scared that they're gonna pay out the ass for reviews, and the general vibe is gonna be "a rising tide lifts all boats", no matter what the actual game is like

  • Rockstar games aren't above criticism of course, but given the gaming landscape, the margin of error for them is so low that a lotta factors will be brought into the mix like the billion dollar budget, the decade-plus wait etc

This was the sentiment when GTA IV came out. Praised unanimously by critics, but more split among the fanbase in terms of reception. It ain't exactly uncharted territory

For Rockstar fanboys the fact they have exponentially more staff, resources, time they can take to perfect a game is left out . Its simply "they are the best" and if you do criticize their game in any way a parasocial person will defend it with their life. Even if done entirely constructively. I will never expect perfection in any form of art and thats okay. I think every piece of art we can discuss what resonates with us and what does not without getting emotional.

This soft ass era of discussing mechanics being considered negativity is soft man. The game has that much sales. Yes its an accomplishment regardless. I know some people at Rockstar. The checks still clear at a game company if you constructively criticize a game. People in studio recognize something isnt perfect. Often time fan feedback and realizing once your piece of art is out there it can be assessed with free will especially in an interactive medium.

When I went to GDC I would be face to face with creators and they respect it more if you arent just "OMG YOURE A GOD"

When I met Phil Spencer 2015 I was honest with him about XBOX state at the time and my favorite XBOX games of the past. Met the creator of Minecraft. Met Rockstar staff then at a party. Countless connections. Discussion on the internet of discussion games with actual passion doesnt upset devs. Saying something "trash' "mid" people just tune that out because they know people do not care.

If s*** isnt death threats or doxxing and its actual discussion of art most devs do not care man

why do you care about the number of the metacritic once it clears 92?

you need everyone to feel exactly the same so you can say "BEST REVIEWED GAME OF ALL TIME"

THE obsession with metacritic and rotten tomatoes is brain rot that didnt exist at all early 2000s and some of the best years of gaming. We would not rush to metacritic to verify how we would feel about a game. We would read some reviews in magazines after already reading multiple previews at times with limited gameplay besides e3 then we would or wouldnt buy the game

The reviews for this could drop the 18th and who cares you own the game. Play the game.
