RDR is considered GTA but cowboys.
This is categorically false. You played the game, you know this. If you still believe this, then this might be in bad faith.
So why when it's a game set in the wild west, I can't criticise Rockstar because I view some of their design choices behind RDR2 as missteps?
I hope I'm wrong, but you might be confusing folks engaging with your critique as folks attacking YOU for not enjoying the game. Cant speak for everyone but that's certainly not how I feel.
You play a criminal in an open world. You have wanted systems, missions like in GTA. Freedom to do what you want and interact with the world like you can in GTA. Some of the design aspects are identical to GTA. RDR2 separated itself more by focusing on narrative, but the core gameplay loop still functions a lot like a GTA game
I'm not taking it as personal attacks but if you're saying "Every game doesn't have to be Doom", I feel like that's a straw man. There's an acceptable middle ground Rockstar has displayed in the past, IV/RDR has movement/control that is realistic enough without forcing the player to awkwardly position themselves in the correct spot so a prompt to advance appears. Rockstar didn't have to go this far with what they were trying to do
It's not like I'm saying "Resident Evil doesn't allow you to walk and aim at the same time, it's bad design". That increases the tension, serves a function in the game - that's good design. But a lot of the annoying parts of RDR2 has no benefit to the player, serves no function except "This is how we think it would happen in real life" and actually makes their game more tedious/cumbersome to play. That's not a good compromise imo, criticising their design choices when that's the result is valid
Lmao, nigga said "Pre-alpha 4 years before launch is basically the final product, they not doing much after that"
Do you know how game development works?
They obviously will expand and refine it But again...
Against Red Dead 2 polish with GTA ambition.
Some of you s think they about to make the perfect life-sim lol

Okay this is much more reasonable than the GOTY stuff.
The core of your argument is that R* didn't have to go this far. Mine is that not enjoying gameplay elements is not bulletproof evidence of the game design being inherently faulty.
We can agree on one thing tho: Friction is good when it produces a meaningful gameplay or experiential consequence, and bad when it merely makes interaction cumbersome.
Where RDR2 falls on the spectrum is the asterisk here.
So lemme summarize my argument:
"See you Nov 19
"
yes
idk how
but i will be watching
Whatever happens next, it's not gonna go down the way you think it is…
PS5s are going for $650 now
550 if you buy refurbished straight from Sony!! Which they’re pretty much like new when you do that so at least there’s that

You ever took apart your PS4 or PS5 and replaced the thermal paste/liquid medal?

Never found a need on a console tbh

thats still too much for 1 (one) game‼️
The hype will be insatiable after August 27th
I mean there plenty of other games to play and replay before launch so . August 27th will more give us something to discuss than vibes for the first time in 3 years

If these people play for 24 hours straight on this highly demanding game many of them are going to realize the joke about having a back up PS5 is going to get very real for them

Ill be so happy to discuss something thats actually in the game finally
With the GoW thing, I'm asking you guys to tell me why you think it won. What separates these two games? Because RDR2 is the most detailed open world in gaming, considered the best story/writing/characters in gaming and it's a gorgeous game. The answer is obviously gameplay to me but if you guys are saying RDR2 has perfect gameplay as well, how did a PlayStation exclusive at the time (so less reach) end up beating it for GOTY at an award show where the public constitutes 10% of the vote?
While developing RDR2, Rockstar had 2 paths ahead of them. Either make this game realistic to the point that it makes playing it feel tedious/frustrates the player or compromise on some of that realism to make their game feel more fun to play because it's still a video game. Rockstar chose to go the first path with many aspects in RDR2 and that's what makes it bad game design
I tried to play the game on its terms, adapt to its systems. That's why I started doing the weapon s*** on my horse but the game still forgets what weapons you equipped like 5 seconds after Arthur starts galloping. I had to ensure I have the correct weapons every. single. damn. time I got off my horse. If I'm going the extra mile to the point where I'm OCD equipping my weapons every few seconds to avoid an outcome and the outcome still happens - I'm going to criticise the design. There's literally no benefit to this feature but it resulted in numerous occasions where I don't have the weapons I just equipped. You're making your game more frustrating to play for the player for what reason? That's bad game design imo
I think God of War won because it is most accessible to all journalist. It is a power fantasy game that allows the player and the journalist playing it to feel like bad ass. It was applauded for having a deeper story about a character that was viewed as shallow and misogynistic in the past which is reductive of the first 3 games but is what it is. I think its a game that was carried by its writing by a bit. Its the same old skill tree and combat you would expect. Its not absolutely groundbreaking or crazy detailed world. But the combat for some is more instantly gratifying than red dead which could be considered a slower burn
The thing about the game awards that many of you forget is that the way people vote on them they are not required to verify they beat all the nominees or anything like that. Its Geoff sends a survey to each outlet. They vote amongst themselves then if there are 5 people on staff and 3/5 say they like god of war better than god of war is the vote for that outlet. Its not a complex system.
God of War won DICE too. There are plenty of politics that play outside of what is "best". In your mind you know more people voting beat a 20 hour game vs a 50 to 190 hour game man.
I dont even love RDR2 but I know more people beat God of War than RDR2. Its more accessible that doesnt universally mean better. Same as Expedition 33 vs Death Stranding 2

Man GTA with cowboys is so reductive its not even funny
Red Dead never going to have a crazy mission with jet packs or anything out of the sorts
How long will the story take? I‘m going with around 80-100 hours
GTA V was short as hell man. I would say 40 hours . Then 80 to 100 for completionist

Stop compare everything with GTA V man. Rockstar changed especially with RDR2. This s*** will be long as hell

A game being overly long doesnt necessarily mean good. Pacing of things matter . I dont want GTA VI to be 80-100 hours long and filled with filler just to be filled with filler. A completionist run being 80-100 hour longs sure cool but a basic run? So every single game rockstar makes you want it to be 30 hours longer than the last?
Not an attention to detail. Not new mechanics. Not variety of missions you just want it to be more. Which again I am saying that more can be in side quest , other side activities and everything else. A main story thats 80-100 hours of the same shooting will get old for most.
You asked how long I think its going to be . 40-60 hours is reasonable. 80-100 hours for main story is insane.

Nobody said that long = good
I just said I think it‘s going to be long. You‘re insufferable sometimes
