This makes me wonder how he pulled off the lighthouse if he doesn't already have total creative freedom and what would it have been if he did

lower budget allows for more risks, esp such a film which is very unconventional already with its B&W on film, aspect ratio n language. they knew what they were getting

90m (30m over budget too) vs 11m for lighthouse

regency was involved in lighthouse but they’re the main production company for northman

We brought our loud obnoxious casual friend and the moment the film was over she literally screeched "THAT WAS THE WORST MOVIE IVE EVER SEEN" the rest of us had a blast and she couldn't understand why we were laughing so hard

“So much of moviemaking is people trying to sell you something,” Hawke said. “I’ve spent my life wondering, Will I ever get to be on a set that feels like ‘Apocalypse Now’? You know, like, somebody’s trying. They have the balls, and the hubris and the arrogance to say, ‘I want to make a masterpiece. I’m going to write a movie about Vikings with an Icelandic poet. And shoot it in a way that a film has never been choreographed before.’ So, for me, just seeing somebody take a swing like that, you know, it’s like a jump off a high dive.”

Nvm i read the interview and Eggers is happy with the final cut

    Let's goooo

But yea it blows my mind that studios don't trust his vision. His last 2 films are 2 of the most praised horror films of our generation

  • Apr 1, 2022

Makes sense he would frustrated but the only thing that matters is he is happy with the final cut.
