Just saw this, it wasn’t nearly as bad as everyone is saying in my opinion. However, all complaints about bad writing for this trilogy are completely justified. This entire trilogy suffers because there is no explanation for new elements for the series that are introduced, and no world building whatsoever. Anything can just happen because they are unwilling to take the time to thoroughly explain why or how they do.

I could list tons of examples of this but I know this has already happened and will continue.

Top KTT2 thread of TV and Film

19 and 2020 we out here

  • Jan 6, 2020

Also, this is more specific but I enjoyed how the saber battles in this trilogy were a combination of the styles in the prequels and OG since I like both.

And last thing, the Knights of Ren were criminally underused, should have had some scenes with them in the first or second movie to set up the payoff of the fight but alas...

summary of our reality right now. Even as a kid I questioned things more than some adults do now which is just wild to me. They take questioning things as hating. I am not even saying everything needs to make sense. Its the fans that are obsessed with "is this canon or not? When does it take place exactly? Can you provide a map of the area? whats the food like there?". Like all those details should kind of be provided by the film but in so many cases details are added in interviews or only believed to be canon if overtly said to the audience that consumes movies like happy meals. With burgers lasting 10 years in the same preprocessed 1$ menu form but cost even less in perspective to make. Instead the burger looks like how it does on the menu with all the special effects but in 10 years they want different CGI. When what made this series special was the characters, practical effects and moments it built up to which all dissipated this trilogy

I try not to be cynical either, i see many people try so hard to over-analyze media and if you do that often enough you become jaded towards just about everything only with you ending up enjoying just about nothing

but i got a certain meter of tolerance and when something becomes so stupid i just can’t enjoy it at that point.

Ehhhh plot holes bother me but more in the way that they break my immersion if there is an asspull in one part but then later in the same movie or universe they are like "THIS IS A STRICT RULE AND IT CANT BE CHANGED" then its like you can literally see the writers struggling or manipulating emotions or investment. Example Chewie fake death. Its like empty gestures in writing to fill time or to be like "gotcha" for no reason other then an attempt to make the audience for a moment feel like the content has stakes or was amounting to something. I am at peace with it because a variety of art is invested in perhaps not by disney but overall. It is sad they earned 80% of the box office last year but that is a sign of the times and of what people want same way disney + did numbers and countless shows challenging the status quo get cancelled. People want Nostalgia. In their own way they want america to be great again because they all have an idealized way of how they viewed art or worshipped star wars or whatever content and they are struggling with the fact that most of that content doesn't hold up or perhaps never truly did evoke emotion out of them or challenge them it just felt good
