One of my favorite clothing brands at the moment, I got into cause of Virgil
bro help shaped my style, s*** finally hitting me that he gone. RIP
I feel for virgil and my thoughts and prayers are with his family as an individual i'm sure he was amazing but tbh dude was just a proponent of luxury and materialism.
Though i commend his creativity it still doesn't takeaway from the fact that materialism is a subset of capitalism and ultimately not beneficial towards the greater good

i remember being 11,12,13 years old just lurking og ktt and Virgil’s tumblr
Real, all b&w pics

way to equate a personal tragedy to the universal condition that affects every single living person. he was just as part of capitalism as you or anybody else living under it

he never sold sneakers for thousands of dollars that’s price gouging resellers and the point of selling those t shirts was to prove niggas would buy anything if it had hype. he even had jim joe do a joke about pyrex during a livestream

He wasn’t creative at all. Dude just slapped words on sneakers and carpet rugs. But I still enjoyed watching his success. He did what Duchamp and Warhol did, but as a black man. And when all you see is how much the fashion industry culture vultures hiphop/street wear it was refreshing to see someone from the culture actually take the helm of a legacy fashion corporation for a change.
I still find his creative output hacky tho. Never was a fan of off-white

A large portion of what life is is wearing Beautifully adorned clothing
You literally don’t interact with anyone without clothing, it’s one of the few actually real arts like architecture people live and interact with

Bro no one gives a s*** about your opinion of capitalism in a death thread of a man who just died at 41 leaving a wife and 2 kids, do u really love your own voice that much . Just pay your respects and move on
I have this story I wanna share from back in 2017 when Virgil came to a festival called Ceremonia in México and played a DJ set.
Back then he used to post a flyer on IG for every show he was playing and when he posted about the show in México I left a comment asking him to play "Look at me" by X and he liked the comment. I was like "nah he must like every comment" so I just kept looking forward for the show lol.
So when I was at the festival, I stopped by the stage where he was gonna play and I saw him standing by the security fences or whatever they're called and I approached him like "yo man what's up im a big fan, I really like what you've been doing with Off-White etc etc" he was such a cool person we talked for like 5 minutes or something and took like 2 pictures, I was like "aight man see you in a bit", shook hands and that's it.
He started playing some EDM tracks, but later on he started playing more Rap music and I heard the Look at me beat playing and I was so hyped. I turned back and looked at him with this big smile on my face in the middle of a moshpit that me and some other guys were making and he pointed at me then said something like "it was you, right?" And I yelled "yeah! That was me!" He smiled back gave me a thumbs up then the moshpit went crazy
It was such a great moment, this was like a month or two before he started the whole "AIR" thing writing on people's shoes with sharpies and s***, I had some Vans on but it would've been cool if he wrote something on em

False! Off White was made where LV and other luxury brands were made.
You assume it was made on some china sweatshop for some reason.

All I’m saying is that if my best friend had months to live I’m not moving like that.
I hope for Kanye’s sake they were at peace before this
But its a strange thing. You could tell someone you have cancer yes, but you could at the same time tell them its under control and not that serious (yet).
You're not going to question them and call them a liar are you? and also people that are generally sick don't want to be treated too differently- just because they are sick
plus... in that interview Kanye was positive regarding Virgil and said he loved him, called him his brother and said he was proud of him (albeit jealous). Whats wrong with that?
i know this might be too soon, but i feel like if there’s one person to take up virgil’s place at LV, it would be kanye. out of respect for virgil’s vision and legacy, it just feels right
I think Kanye is past that to be honest.
Maybe a few collabs with LV (similar to his Gap deal), but hes too big now to just work for them now

This is really the type of person we lost
Great story
yeah i just remember not liking that when he initially said it, life is too short to be jealous of the ones you love but i know Ye loved Virgil, and complimented him perfectly. They changed the world for the better together
I think its natural to feel jealous of certain aspects of people around you- that doesn't mean you can't still be happy or proud of them at the same time though
Like if your best friend won the lottery- you can be happy for them, but if part of you thinks 'damn that could have been me' , aint nothing wrong with that
it’s surreal, he and many others made me believe that even in a world still looking down at PoC you can achieve big things.
but now he’s dead to f***ing cancer, man f*** cancer.
Pancreatic cancer got my grandpa in 2015, terrible terrible decease.
