TkkenI appreciate the response. I agree with a lot of what you're saying. at the same time, to me the real question is- how do you resolve the underlying tensions that provoked the godhra incident to begin with?
India isn't a mighty police state that can unilaterally impose its will to snuff out would-be terrorists (and of course, no one wants that either). this is why a lot of views on ethnic violence in india seem incredibly utopian to me- do people really believe that if we simply replace xyz government officials conflicts that stretch back literal centuries will disappear?
I admit violence was inevitable as we are currently very divided. The numbers could have been lesser like 200-300 if Govt. intervened to stop the riots. They let them loose free and actually instructed the police to help them, which caused the number to balloon to over 2k. I am not saying if some other party had been in power, they would have ended the conflict, my issue is that Modi chose the worst possible option out of all he had because he knew this option would get him the most votes in the upcoming elections. I admit the problem is deep-rooted in our society. We can atleast agree that his job was to try to stop the riots, I know he couldn't have possibly worked so good, that there would have been 0 casualties but he could have brought that number down and not actually help it to reach such a huge figure of 2k+.
I admit Modi is not the disease, he is the symptom of the disease. He is still plaguing us in 2021 with piss-poor governance but unfortunately his party would still come in power in 2024 just cause of the false hope he has given of a Hindu-Rashtra (Hindu-State) to the Hindu Majority.
