I actually did enjoy the finale a lot. Probably preferred 9 a lil bit cos I'm not a huge guy for continuity in the show but imo they managed to do it with enough meta stuff and humour to avoid the usual pitfalls.

The biggest problem is they want it to be exactly like it was the first two seasons and no one involved behind the scenes wants to and it wouldn’t be smart for them to.

R&M is more suited for entire season arcs than South Park but the writers aren’t interested in trying that hard. An entire season leading up this would’ve been more impressive than the other s*** they were doing.

IMO the gold standard for this is futurama which for the most part especially in earlier seasons had a much more balanced mix of its own ideas, character moments and references that werent repeatedly shoved in your face for 20 minutes as a time

0 subtlty unless its the season ark b plot that wants u to connect 50000 background elements like sherlock holmes for the reveal that evil morty is running things like this holds weight in a series where the main characters routinely die and then in the next episode theres some background bullshit that makes it "not the canon R&M"

last season is a 6/10

So I recently rewatched the entire show from season 1 before getting into season 5, which I hadn't watched at all.

Season 1 & 2- Nothing much needs to be said; the gold standard. Laugh out loud jokes in almost every episode, inventive scenarios for their adventures.

Season 3- I felt as if this is when the show became good with some brilliant episodes in it. It's overall consistent but it was a lil overwhelming/chaotic in the first half. Still, "The Ricklantis Mixup" is one of the best episodes in the whole show period.

Season 4- I didn't remember much from this season but I remember watching all the episodes before when I played it now; it started coming back. The dragon episode and the Aliens/Prometheus episode had some weird s*** I wasn't big on, but overall this was okay. Nothing spectacular.

Season 5- It was alright. The opening two episodes and the last one were the stand outs. At this point, I feel like the jokes have now taken a back seat to meta humor which is not my favorite but that's fine. Writing overall feels different, but overall I thought it was a fine, entertaining enough, watchable season
