Eminem's discography has a lot of corny Kyle-tier drywall-punching moments, but he also has iconic songs and stuff that slaps to this day
You also have to remember that Em came before we were all densensitized to morbidity and shock value via the internet. The s*** he was getting away with saying back then was unheard of in a mainstream context. Back in that era Christina Aguilera's 'Dirrty' video was controversial ffs, now that's just every day s***
Uncut Gems is entry level Sandler. Billy Madison is the true kino
*That's my boy
after reading through this thread I'm glad it became an Adam Sandler and Freddy Got Fingered appreciation thread
good job everyone
The most played out and boring topic. People who start talking about art by saying “this hasn’t aged well” need to just stop talking about art.

People have zero understanding of cultural context. Every mainstream movie from s***comedies to horror flicks was incredibly “edgy” in the late 90’s and 2000’s. After columbine and then definitely after 9/11 we lived in a shock culture. The Bush years were basically therapeutic for people in a way. They wanted escape from endless war and economic collapse and looked to media to make them laugh at the most horrific things. It was considered good to be transgressive then.
Around 2014 is when people started suddenly suggesting that that was now corny or bad. It was mostly white bloggers and writers who wrote for Pitchfork, Noisy, and other such publications. Forum standards grasp onto the norms those people prop up through their writing. There’s like a feedback loop of cultural acceptability and coolness between forums, writers, and social media like twitter. It’s all manufactured.

For what it’s worth I’ve been calling his music trite edgy and overall uninspiring since 2009

Plenty of people taught Eminem was tasteless and offensive...
Amongst them, Michael Jackson

Being edgy or using satire isn't the problem
Being controversial for the sake of it and to remain in the news maybe is
Eminem was attention whoring with his calling out celebs etc
When did he have anything of value to say or was he funny??? Tbf being funny is subjectif :
I'm sure his fans still laugh at him sexualizing the Olsen twins, calling random people the f word, rapping bout harming the women in his life and blaming them for all his woes etc.
Katt Williams and Dave Chappelle said alot of controversial stuff but they were funny (and actual comedians) still regarded as respected greats for their work in their fields
Eminem was trite s*** at being edgy, it was lazy tbh
Eminem’s music didn’t age well at all man.
There’s a few songs that will always go but most of his stuff I can’t play
Only time Eminem made decent music was the somber songs like them later Encore singles
The edgelord s*** was bad, the rappity rap s*** is bad, and the thugged out G-unit era made for some good collabs but is hilariois in terms of persona
Yeah he actually did

WE AINT GOIN NOWHERE
bro idk how someone can be this ignorant to eminem, sure now he's def washed but u can not look me in the f***ing face and say songs like:
mockingbird
when i'm gone
no love
stan
sing for the moment
don't hit... at least in the nostalgia sense. sure his music for me at least is just a nostalgia trip but i think he definitely influenced people and paved the way for more subject matter to be covered in rap music and to disrespect his career is just dumb as hell. you probably either 15 or never went thru any sort of struggle
