these the moments I wish most of KTT understood Spanish. This like TSOA level disrespectful. Calling out his father, his talent, his upbringing, calling him a racist

This even crazier than TSOA tbh. Like Rene really destroyed him in the biggest platform possible, and made really good points and spitted all facts

can someone break this down to me in english, what is Residente's main problem with Balvin. From the little spanish I know, he mentioned the black women in dog chains and Balvin's dumbass comments about being white in Reggaeton.

I mean he just gave him 8 minutes of pure heat lmfao.

  • Mar 3, 2022

A few months ago Balvin wanted to boycott the latin grammies because, I forget why lol but Rene was like "how dare you ask the rest of us to not go to the latin grammy's when this year they are paying tribute to Ruben Blades. You want us to miss out on Ruben Blades because of you?". Said that his music "hot dog" music. "Good, everybody enjoys a hot god. But when you want real good food you got to a 5 star restaurant, not a hot dog stand" was an actual quote lol Rene said Balvin was calling everybody in the industry trying to get him to take down the post and what not and kept verbally attacking Balvin on IG videos.

Balvin responded by simply posting pictures of himself at a hot dog stand and started putting out hot dog merch lol last week Rene went on IG and said that Balvin was going around again asking everybody in the industry to convince him to not drop this diss record. That Balvin would sue if the track dropped lol and yeah here we are today. If we being real Rene is Puerto Rican lyricist and he hates that a Colombian, who doesn't write or produce his own music, is out there calling himself the ambassador of the genre. In the song he calls him a racist for various reasons, calls out his dad for being a "frustrated influencer" and his upbringing/white priviledge. Calls out his needing "20 writers for one 2 minute song" etc.. it's almost 9 minutes he really goes all out lmao

I knew Balvin was a loser when he made the comments about Daddy Yankee or whatever the f*** he was trying to say,, but the threat to sue really confirms that J Balvin is just a loser.

He said in some interview that he never felt he could be a reggaeton artist until he saw Daddy Yankee because DY is "white" and everyone else doing reggaeton at the time was darker skinned. it was just a very eye roll inducing comment.

Is Daddy Yankee an Eminem-like figure for reggaeton in that narrow respect?

i think it's a little different: with the Pusha - Drake beef there had been several subs throughout the years

With the René - Balvin situation it all "started" (I put started between quotes because I think there must have been a lot of animosity behind the scenes, which is the real beginning of the situation) when Balvin tried to boycott the grammys.

I understand Balvin's position, in a way: given the importance of Reggaeton in the latin music scene today, it definitely could have more nominations.

I also understand René's side: a lot of underground artists get their time in the spotlight with the grammys and reggaeton artists like Balvin, Benito, Rauw, etc. are gonna have a lot more award shows to shine (Billboard Latin Music Awards, e.g.). Besides, that year the grammy's were honoring Rúben Blades, someone who René admires.

What I don't understand is the proportion René felt this situation needed to assume: Balvin has, without doubt, made some distasteful comments / actions (e.g. Perra video, DY comment, Colombia situation, etc.) but he didn't call René out individually and, besides that, to call him a racist? Balvin was on Perra with Tokischa, Balvin made music with Yendry, Arcangel (who is also one of his best friends), Sech, etc, all recently and all great light or dark-skinned artists.
Balvin has also said Tego is one of his biggest inspirations (if not the biggest).
My point is: we can't use the term racist that loosely, especially given Balvin's actions in the past, music-wise (giving an opportunity and a platform to these artists).
I also think René has a lot of personal issues with Balvin, that stem way beyond this particular situation, and he used the Balvin take on the Grammys to attack.
