NEW BEEF HISTORY--Franco El Gorila vs Arcangel
This beef was one of my favorites ever. Organic, not forced or corny. Two new school cats wanting to prove they were the best (or leader) of the new school. Both of these artist had big breakout songs on the new artist compilation classic: Sangre Nueva. But even before that, Arcangel was a star in the making. Arcangel and De La Ghetto's free "Flow Factory" mixtape spread throughout the entire island of PR and he had major buzz even before breaking through, commercially. Franco had been writing a bit for artist, and finally signed a deal with WY Records. Wisin y Yandel's new record label. It featured artist like Tony Dize, El Tio, Gadiel, Jayko...what was missing was a lyrical machine that could defend the honor of the label in war...enter La Maquina de Guerra(the machine of war). Arcangel signed with Baby Records, Zion's(Zion y Lennox) record label. Arcangel and De La Ghetto would be the stars of that label and really would carry that label for a few years.
Arcangel was already feeling himself, recklessly talking s*** about how he's the best in the game now and nobody could mess with him. Wisin & Yandel already had some problems with him, and following the success Arcangel had after the breakout song on Sangre Nueva (Ven Pegate), WY included Franco on several tracks on their classic album "Pal Mundo", which came out a few months after Sangre Nueva. On the song 'La Compan~ia", the label sends their first shots towards Baby Records and other enemies:

After that it was on..and Franco sent the first real shots on the diss record 'El Que Se Tire':

I remember I loved this song when I first heard it on the radio. The chorus was very catchy and I loved Franco's rapping style. Was just an initial jab, but I really enjoyed that song. Didn't take long for Arcangel to respond, though...

Arcangel came back with the massive hit record "No Me Ronques". This was a first round victory for Arcangel. As he came much more direct at Franco and showed off his flow, which was unique at the time and something very fresh in the genre. Song was very popular, at least in the island. Some clever lines like "usted sera un gorila pero yo no soy manco" (you might be a gorilla, but I have hands..rest of the line raps about being able to carry guns). Also talks about how he's better than Franco and his boss(Wisin). And makes fun of Wisin & Yandel's hit song from their album, 'Dame Una Barria' by singing the chorus of the song. Arcangel looked like he had gotten the upper hand...yet that final line I just said about his song proved to be a mistake...

Franco responded with this BOMB of a track. This is an iconic diss song in reggaeton history. The beat alone is legendary. The energy Franco displayed on this song was incredible. By the second round, both Franco and Arcangel had reached the point in their careers where they knew who they were. They perfected their crafts and found their styles. This song was Franco at his best. Screaming, high energy, good lyrics, good flows. "Que fue lo que paso en Luxor? Dale gracias a dios que todavia tienes pulso!" (what happened en Luxor?(a club in PR which arcangel was supposed to sing at, but backed out after seeing Franco's crew) give thanks to god that you still have a pulse!!). At the end of the song, Franco uses Arcangel making fun of WY's 'Dame Una Barria' to make him sound gay. Also says in his company there are men, in Arcangel's its just "baby's". Referencing the label name, Baby Records. As far as diss tracks in the genre go, this might be a top 10 all timer.

Arcangel quickly came back, over the same classic beat Franco used. Another very popular diss record. The prior Franco record clearly touched a nerve, as Arcangel was higher energy and more agitated than ever before on this record. "Yo estare en el cielo pero usted en el zologico" (I might be in the clouds, but you belong in the zoo). Arcangel also made fun of the way Franco sounds singing hooks and included an old phone call with Franco in which Franco states that he likes(or loves) Arcangel. Another big, memorable diss record.
In between everything, they appeared together on the Sangre Nueva special edition intro. An absolute classic song, one of the best intros ever, and they both absolutely killed it. Taking shots at each other on their verses. De La Ghetto also takes shots at Franco on this song "cuidado que no resbales con la cascara de guineo"(be careful, don't slip with the banana peel).

Franco responded with Round 3. A deep cut on the WY Records classic album: Los Vaqueros. By this time, a year had passed since the beginning of the beef. It wasn't quite as hot as it was a year before, but this song still went underrated. Good beef, Franco screaming more than ever now lol. By this time, it can be argued that both artist had outgrown the beef.

Arcangel would return shots several times afterward. Including this song 'Tu Flow Con El Mio'. "Tu no puedes contra mi, en los barrios q tu mencionas a mi me apoyan mas que a ti" (you can't beat me, in the hoods you mention they support me more than you) and "gorilla, una especial de mono..grande en taman~o, pero de mente muy bobo"(gorilla, a species of monkey..big in size, but mentally stupid) lol
By this time the beef had become more than just Franco vs Arcangel. It was a label war between Baby Records and WY Records. WY were getting involved, while Arcangel singlehandedly wanted to take on everybody at the time. He was on his Tupac s*** lol Arcangel disses them on songs like 'Seguimos Campeando'. One of the underrated diss records during this time, and one of my favorites ever was this one:

Arcangel, Randy(Jowell & Randy) and Syko got together to make this 10/10 song, with several shots at Franco and Wisin. Randy kills the hook, Syko absolutely destroys his verse and Arcangel lays down a smooth "I'm the best right now" type of verse. Syko's verse is just vicious. During this beef was prime Arcangel imo. After this, he never had that same hunger in his raps anymore. 'Campeando Solo' was another great Arcangel diss song to WY Records. Mostly to Wisin & Yandel. By the end of the beef, Arcangel wasn't aiming at Franco..he was aiming at the bosses of the label and the hottest duo in the world.

In this record, he calls Wisin the embarrassment of his home town and calls Yandel a masoquist for trying to include himself in the beef. "tu no rapeas pa, tu eres un buen corista" (you don't rap, you are good hook maker). As I said before, this is prime Arcangel. His voice, his flow, his delivery, his lyrics. Never better than during 05-06.
At the end of the second year of the beef, the beef was finally squashed. During Don Omar's historic King of Kings tour, following the classic King Of Kings album...Don was in good terms with Wisin y Yandel and Arcangel. He saw/considered Arcangel as the heir to his throne and saw and opportunity to squash the bad blood between the camps. I was actually there, in person, to witness this moment(went to this show for my birthday lol). First, WY were brought out by Don. Then they brought out Franco...then Don brought out Arcangel. They performed their diss records against each other and a few of their own hits..then they hugged it out at the end. Amazing that there is video of this on youtube(albeit grainy af)..incredible moment from an incredible concert:

A few months later, Arcangel and Franco collaborated on a song together:

Had forgotten about this song, but it was definitely a moment when it dropped. Arcangel changed so much man. He was a beast
Another song they made together, but was never released. Was supposed to be an intro to Urba y Monserrate album "Los Jedis". Featuring Wisin & Yandel, Arcangel and Franco together. Song is amazing, shame it was never released. If you've never heard it, you are welcome:

Great beef, arguably the most entertaining beef in genre history. Just went back and forth, no real bad blood. Just beef on wax. Hope y'all enjoy

F***ing amazing write up. That s*** was definitely one of the most exciting times in reggaeton ever. Tension was at an all time high and I dead ass though Franco was gonna kill this nigga Arca.
Arca did a lot of work and his pen was crazy. I thought Tu Flow Con El Mio was alot closer in the beef timeline, but when he dropped that he dead ass just ended Franco (IMO).
Arca also was MAD ballsy because WY was the top and were in the middle of a longgggggg reign. He went straight for the top and I think that’s why Don Omar stepped in and made it right.
Great moment, made my Sunday with these memories.

Yeah 05-06 was just a great time in reggaeton. Whole 00s is the golden era but there was great energy in the middle portion, with new acts like Arcangel, Franco, Cosculluela, Yomo, Jowell & Randy etc.. coming in. One of my next Beef History's will be about Arcangel vs Polaco, which happened a few years later. That was the end of the super cocky, "I'm the best in the world" Arcangel imo lol His prime was amazing though and these were some beautiful times to live out. Proud to say I was there(at King of Kings concert) to see that history live

Yall f*** with this Im ngl it’s kinda corny CJ verse is so trash lmao Alfa did his thing tho the beat hard kinda reminds me of Singapur

Cuban reggaeton is on the cusp of blowing up I can feel it. After dembow finishes its takeover in the coming years Cuban artists are coming in right behind them

Must've been insane witnessing history like that in person
Lowkey I'm still interested / curious in hearing about that Tony Dize blackballed

Yeah, definitely got that singapur sound. CJ don't be doing much on the dembow, since his spanish ain't that good, the whoopty outro is cool / interesting. The chorus is cool but I can see it being repetitive. The video is pretty funny tho for the fake El Alfa
Releases this week:

Ozuna - La Funka
Got that feel good tropical sound. Video is nice with the inclusion of the costume bears in different scenarios

Juliito and Bryant Myers
Mentioned in posts above:
Haraca Kiko featuring Lil Mosey
CJ and El Alfa
Tracks missed / overlooked from last week:

Las Villa - El Tracatra featuring Wisin and KEVVO
I'm unfamiliar with the duo, but the chorus has one singing pretty the other sounding gritty
Wisin and KEVVO do their thing on the track providing heavy, hard verses. I didn't even know what to expect before listening, but definitely worth checking out

Randy feature on a pop song, for the curious
![]()
Arcangel - Los Favoritos 2.5
A continuation of last year's release, with entirely new tracks. Features from current artists, there's even a Ken-Y feature
I have yet to listen tho
![]()
Enrique Iglesias - Final (Vol. 1)
First volume to his final album. 6 new tracks, 3 english / 3 spanish, while older tracks / hits being tossed in the end. Myke providing a bit of change in pace for his feature. There is a Farruko feature in there as well. I don't care for it, but worth a listen if you like Enrique Iglesias
