Havenāt been posting itt but I finished Iron Gold about a month ago and just got through Dark Age last week. These books are certainly a step up from the original trilogy but Iām kind of ⦠whelmed right now lol
Is it crazy I kind of liked Iron Gold more than Dark Age??? I liked a lot of the set up that was happening in that book. The Lyria and Ephraim have been perfectly fine povās - I appreciate having some characters that are more on the ground and letting us see how the republic is functioning for normal people and weāre not just hearing about it from the eliteās pov. And I really enjoyed Virginiaās chapters in Dark Age - she was probably my favorite pov of that book. Idk if I liked Lysander pov as much in Dark Age, but I did enjoy his politicking in Iron Gold quite a bit - probably my favorite pov in that book.
The plotting has been mostly good imo, but I do feel like there have been a few more dues ex machina/conveniently timed moments in Dark Age than I would have liked. I also didnāt really love the jackal and Cassius still being alive reveals|| in Dark Age. ||I know they talked about cloning a bit in the previous books and Cassius technically didnāt die on page, but I just donāt really love that theyāre back and wish we just let the characters that are still alive and have been introduced in these two books bring us home . Maybe Lightbringer will change my opinion
Itās been about 4 years since I read the first 3, so I did also forget the more adolescent humor of characters like Sevro. Reading again now Iām remembering how much I havenāt missed that lol.
I originally told myself I was good at the end of the first trilogy, but decided to read the rest given how much people love 4-6. Iām enjoying myself well enough, but Iām hoping Lightbringer is gonna evoke something stronger in me because right now Iām kind of already looking forward to the next books I have planned after I finish it

Gonna do Republic of Memory by Mahmud El Sayed first, then Last Contract of Isako by Fonda Lee. So still saying sci fi space for now but slightly different direction

If you want the peak of Sci Fi, amazing story, amazing main character and just an AMAZING series, yes it is.
Some people compare Red Rising and Sun Eater. Don't do it man. Neither book series are even close to one another in terms of story, content, characters etc.
