I forgot this game has an original D’ANGELO song used during a dramatic story moment

How could this not be game of the life

Also how tf did they get him to do that.

    Cool story actually

Much like a typical D’Angelo album, Red Dead Redemption 2 has been many years in the making: The previous entry in the series came out in 2010. The company tests its games as they are in progress, and one singer was particularly eager to try it out. “D’Angelo’s actually a massive, massive, massive fan of the game — more than I ever knew,” says Ivan Pavlovich, Director of Music and Audio at Rockstar Games, the company behind Red Dead Redemption 2 and other gaming hits like Grand Theft Auto.

D’Angelo reached out to Pavlovich through an unnamed intermediary. “He would come in here Rockstar’s New York city office and just play the game. We weren’t even talking about doing music,” Pavlovich says. “When D’Angelo comes through, he shows up at midnight, and he’s playing the game until four in the morning. Each time he was just like, ‘it’s incredible.’ It just blows his mind. He’s such a fan. I have never seen someone that excited.”

D’Angelo’s enthusiasm emboldened Pavlovich to ask the singer if he was interested in contributing music to the game. (Though the game also includes singing from Nas, Rhiannon Giddens, Willie Nelson and Josh Homme, most of the score is instrumental.) And when D’Angelo agreed, that gave Pavlovich extra leverage to recruit Lanois to supervise the vocal parts of the soundtrack. “The invitation was, ‘would I write songs?'” the producer remembers. “And then they said, ‘we might be able to hook you up with D’Angelo.’ That’s all it took. I love D’Angelo, and always appreciated those great R&B records he made.”

Definitely up there with some of the greatest stories told on screen. Up there with Breaking Bad and Sopranos for sure.

It’s gonna be hard to capture that magic if they add a 3rd game .

  • gonna finally start this and play it through

RDR fam, is there any other game story you think is as good or very close to rdr2? I desperately need something at least close in storytelling. I've yet to find it myself

Not really the same vibe and you probably already have played/know the acclaim but Witcher 3 is one of very few games that's actually pulled me in with its characters and storytelling. I tried it on PS4 and Switch but gave up bc I didn't like the gameplay but on my third try on XSS it finally pulled me in and I binged tf out of it. Still need to finish the second dlc tho. Eventually started to enjoy the gameplay but it was really the characters that kept me so interested.

Is it a hot take to say game kinda falls off around chapter 4?

Not saying it turns bad or any means, still an amazing game the whole time… but chapter 2 and 3 to me is just the peak

I wouldn't say it falls off really. The tone shift in the story makes sense. Most of the missions still hold up. It all really makes sense still. Its just depressing cause you know how things are gonna go. Especially the last chapter. Like you really feel the despair.
