I've said it once I'll say it a million times, most people only care about "mental health" insofar as it doesn't make them uncomfortable.
As soon as things get difficult or morally gray, it's much easier to default to animal brain shunning behavior than to actually offer help, sympathy, or at least try to have a level headed conversation. People who consider themselves to be morally righteous will rationalize the shunning so they can avoid ruffling any feathers, as their only real moral standard is social approval.
