it’s plenty of underground rappers that are youthful and about bars. The real problem is the gatekeepers in NY aren’t necessarily rap OGs in that lane more like media and industry execs that aren’t promoting that sound because they tryna chase the next “hit” or wave from NY. That’s why it seems like a decade ago after Hot nigga, the city rallied around a new anthem lol

The rap OGs are also either still active, or on to other ventures. Some still have niggas under them but they aren’t in the lane of the Joey or Starker and YL (two underground NY rappers with a real Movement)

Simply put NY hip hop has had an identity crisis for a long time now, it’s either niggas aren’t interested in NY’s rooted sound or those that are don’t get enough attention.
