Okay so I’ve heard all of these projects on release date, only mixtape I didn’t hear on the day it came out was House of Balloons, otherwise Thursday and Onwards I listened from day one
Let’s Start
House of Balloons
9.5/10
The only reason it isn’t a 10/10 is because I’m not the biggest fan of how the auto-tune was handled in “What You Need” Besides that I love every other track
Thursday
8/10
Wasn’t a fan of the lack of cohesion in this mixtape, it was all over the place. the track “The Life of The Party” i always skip, and the opening track “Lonley Star” didn’t age that great. that being said this mixtape has the highest high points out of all 3 mixtapes with amazing cuts like “The Birds”, and “The Zone” Featuring Drake
Echoes of Silence
9/10
The most cohesive out of the 3 mixtapes, and most R&B-esque tape as well. Abels vocals are very prominent in the tracks and carry most of the weight on this tape which I love. My only real complaint is that it’s TOO cohesive to the point where it gets a little bland. but otherwise amazing.
Kiss Land
9/10
I have a bias with this album because of my love of the Japanese visuals and influence In this album. From the John Carpenter teaser up until the end of the tour this album/era delivered perfectly.
The album itself had a few shortcomings and bland tracks, but it’s thematics really held the album together very well
Beauty Behind The Madness
6.5/10
This is my least favorite album of his discography. The tracks feel very lifeless, and there isn’t much of a theme in my opinion. There are several tracks I really like like I can’t feel my face and often. not much else to say on this project.
PS: “Only Losers Go To School” has to be top 3 worst bar in Abels discog.
Starboy
8.5/10
My favorite full length Abel album. This album corrected most of the short comings of BBTM and some. It has the thematic, beautiful Daft Punk production and dark ambience sprinkled throughout the album. Like the rest of his albums, this record also has its shortcomings like the track love to lay (top 3 worst Abel track)
My Dear Melancholy,
9/10
This EP really brings back a lot of raw emotion missing on most of his full length LPs. you can really feel the pain in most of these tracks and the atmosphere is amazing. There was no promo or hype up for this EP which brings back a lot of that enigmatic vibe Abel was known for back in 2011. Amazing project.
Starboy is a pop masterpiece stop hating on the boy many iconic tracks on it
7.5 cause it has fillers
