Just a random shower thought, but post timelines where something in rap happened differently and what if effects
I was thinking what if Donda West never died
I feel like what would have happened would have been 808s and Heartbreak never happening. He probably would have stayed with his ex and married her as well. And instead he releases Good Ass Job as planned.
In my opinion he probably wouldn’t have worked with cudi and probably worked with another blog era rapper like Wale or just exposed Big Sean earlier. So Cudi probably becomes a niche artist of the 00s. Drake would probably still blow up but his sound would be different. Still singing and rapping but soundscape wise drastically different
The influence of Autotune and 808s I feel still would have happened. Autotune would have prob been stamped by Wayne in the rap community. And the south had already been using 808s but they prob wouldn’t have been as big of a thing in all of mainstream rap maybe until 2012-2013. The lex Luger era prob doesn’t happen. And the Blog / Backpack era last longer until maybe 2015.
I feel like in this timeline the Taylor incident doesn’t happen as well so no MBDTF. I feel like Ye probably would still be a legend but not as big or as prolific as he is today. He probably would have started to fade with his peers by 2013/2014 while releasing more soulful esque music. He always wanted to be in fashion but I also feel like Yeezy flops in this timeline since he never marries Kim and doesn’t have the right influences on the fashion world. He prob makes an album angry about it like Yeezus but it would be remembered more poorly due to him not being successful with fashion. Also Travis Scott is either non existent or just another backpack rapper
The SoundCloud era would have probably still happened the way it did and in 2016. But I feel like the SoundCloud era would view Ye as washed and probably not work with him as much if at all. Meaning he doesn’t exc produce WLR and give Carti the balenciaga drip. Carti prob uses a different version of whole lotta red and the underground / current rap landscape sounds totally different. Also everyone dresses different without the opium swag influence
There's a YouTube channel that does this with artists but mainly with Tyler the creator and every time it shows up in my reccs it makes me pissed off cuz I don't get it
They get all nerdy and make (generate?) music and mixes of alternative timeline paths n s*** too with text words explain what's going on and it's such a string of rabbit holes
It's a small ass channel too
They off an addy crazy
What if Drake won
Honestly. The only thing I can see that changing is people prob look at Kendrick a lil sideways and maybe he doesn’t sell that much as before. Outside of that I don’t see any butterfly effects
X lives
Zimmerman dies
Streets are just getting started
in my opinion if X never died, there would be a part of underground rap that’s very lyric focused, and possibly some of the artist we have now are a lil more lyrical
@ChatGPT Show me a timeline where Travis Scott never happened.
