For me I see it the same way as you, he seeks to do more with his albums and do cool things, and his self perception as well as the way music fans have hyped him up after Rodeo should open him up to being looked at under a microscope. But most of his internet critics, I find always point to his lack of substance or lyrical prowess to critique him and that’s when they begin looking like the smug librarian dragon meme to me
