What I kinda hate is the fact that the $700 price tag is pretty much marketing within itself. And even though people are mocking the price, their putting the word out there about the Pro, and even helping some people decide whether they want to buy or not.

I don't think it's necessarily genius, but that sticker shock reveal during the stream was definitely a marketing strategy.

Basically, putting a wild price on something, compels a good number people to want it more vs the majority. Sony just need those few people who "have to have it".

Sure, but we saw at the beginning of this gen that the PS5 entered that same sphere of "status symbol," especially with the supply shortages. Sony has long been trying to move like Apple.

Phones are absolutely a necessity but we see people buying the highest end versions regardless of price (Ultra, +, whatever) instead of the base models just because they want the shiniest possible thing.
