Zero chance Valve aren’t aware how that info is getting out. Even with source being open they have their own in house builds to prevent any real leaks. The only “data mined” code being released to the public is what they don’t care about people seeing
I feel like most of the code left in the last few years have been little teases
They've made comments before that it keeps their core audience more engaged. I don't think it's them doing "teases" but I think they actively choose to not go through the extra work that it would require of covering it all up with the system that they currently use. It keeps core / deranged audiences engaged and the general public won't care, so why do all that work to cover it all up lol.
yeah this is all part of the rollout leaving little teases for the hyper-analytical valve fans like this. there’s no point being secretive about it either considering it’s an open secret at this point to anybody who has
they’re smart enough to know people will and have actively been doing that for years
plus it brings extra fan goodwill if they’re open about the fact they’re actually actively making the game everyone wants to see
now if he’d said half life 3 (or whatever the title will end up being, it might not even be actual hl3), then I would say that was an actual slip up
this was definitely an actual slip-up because the guy next to him was NOT happy
We also knew about HLVR (Alyx), Citadel (Deadlock), and CS2 years before they launched in the exact same way. Also same with the third iteration of L4D (it never released but was confirmed to have been in early development). Like almost the exact same path here outside of a Valve person messing up lol.
Who knows? We could still be a couple years out, but a lot of people talk about Valve scrapping projects and, while that's somewhat true when it comes to early development, I don't think there's a game or project that we know of that hasn't surfaced in some form and also had entire teams working on them consistently without resetting for 7 years. It really feels like they all want this thing to come out.
