There's no point in having a fully voiced protagonist that's still nameless

There are canon names for the MC, different one depending on the country you’re playing in.

    US name is Will.

He should be given an actual name that the characters call him instead of "lad" or "friend"

Finally finished the demo, still disappointed on how much of this games foundation is built off Persona instead of being its own thing but this was still pretty good for just being Fantasy Persona. Biggest complaint though is that the action combat is... kinda ass, the telegraphs for the enemies are almost non existent which makes them annoying to fight (might be better of lower difficulties? idk)

The protagonist being nameless isn't that much of an issue to me but you can tell that they didn’t actually want to commit to the protagonist having a voice, as far as I am concerned the MC is still a silent protagonist

It’s been known for years what it’s gonna be like.

This game is the accumulation of everything they’ve been building on since Persona 3, it’s no different than what Larian did with Baldur’s Gate 3, building on the foundation of the Divinity series, or Fromsoft with pretty much everything they’ve been doing for the last 15 years (barring AC, though that clearly takes inspiration from their Soulsborne games as well).

This one even has an original world with original lore, Persona was still under the SMT banner.

im ngl this feels like a game under the SMT banner. Feels like DDS more than Persona, though. They even kept a lot of the spell names and did a Pixie redesign lol

Ehh I don’t think we have know for years what this would be like, back when this was still known as Project Re Fantasy we didn’t really know how it would play. It was only when this was announced as Metaphor Refantazio that we got an idea of what this would actually be.

It’s not that I’m surprised, as more footage came out it became clear that this was going to be extremely familiar if you played SMT or Persona but I’m still disappointed in just how much was borrowed from Persona. I’m not talking about the world/lore by the way I’m strictly talking about the gameplay systems such as the calendar day/night cycle, levelling up social stats, the tedious hand holding at the start of the game…

Funny enough, the things I like about this game like the press turn system are borrowed from SMT rather than Persona and whilst I said that this game uses Persona as a foundation… so far I don’t think they did much building at all from this foundation from what I have played so far in the demo. The job system is cool but the field action combat is… a bit annoying if you aren’t using a job that uses ranged attacks.

That being said; this is a demo and maybe more interesting systems will be introduced later in the game (I haven't been watching any new trailers for this game in a while so I might be out of the loop)

disagree, re: field battles. quick melee strikes feel the best for sure

It feels really satisfying but I think there might be a skill issue on my side because I find that I struggle to see what the enemy is actually doing, using range is basically for safety; recovering from the enemy getting the jump on you on hard difficulty where they get an extra press turn is so expensive in the early game when mp is limited

the enemies have a white flash before they do any attack so I feel like that's fine...but I also just do like 2 hits then sprint away lol

The fact I have to dodge after 2 hits is exact why I switched to range. You can spam attack and the enemies somewhat get stun locked and can’t reach you because your AoE out ranges them (but also I never noticed the white flash lmao)

Edit: I went back in and I have no idea how I missed that, I’m gonna chuck that up to me being tired as s***

Only 20 reviews so subject to change but I didn't think it would pass the 90 threshold, pretty good
