Boi-1da, perhaps open his own website or sell his beats on beatstars.com for $250 a pop, or $500 for the full usage rights. I think J Cole could be successful doing that too.
Also why don’t more producers do this?
Because most producers don’t want anyone and everyone rapping on their beats, especially if they have some sort of clout
As a producer myself, nothing is worse than someone hitting you up saying they used your beat, only for the song to be absolute dogshit
Plus $250-$500 is what most bedroom producers charge, boi-1da or j cole could get 2-5k easy
$500 for full usage rights is muchhh less than those guys are getting when they get placements

How about they use their old beats from 10+ years ago that nobody wanted anyway or something. While they keep their latest and greatest stashed away privately.
Good way for them to make extra cash on the side
Okay maybe $250 was too low but I think $1k would be the sweet spot. Cheap enough for anyone to purchase yet enough to make them a good profit.

You do realize for example, Jake One is selling his beats on beatstars.com for $50 each, for basic license and $150 for the WAV + premium license. Actually surprised me given his status amongst producers.

thats one guy. idk why hes doing that tbh. but even then he sells a $150 "premium license" that is still just a license. if any of those songs pop he can come back and tear up that agreement once it passes 1 million streams. so hes not really "selling" beats outright like you might think he is. he's basically just getting a little license fee off random people. i guess guys like boi 1-da could do that but they also have bigger fish to fry im sure
one of the incentives of being a boi 1-da or something is not only do you get up-front producer fees for placing songs on major label rap albums but you also get backend royalties when those songs do really well
for example one of my songs got in a foot locker commercial, i owned 80% of the master and 50% of the pub, so the producer walked away with 20% of one half and 50% of the other half. that's the kind of stuff that a producer is sacrificing by selling their beats to just anybody off the internet

I just don't see why any producer at that level would do this tbh
Doesn't make much sense financially and not really artistically unless you want to help small artists i guess
One of the worst parts of being a producer after 2017 or so is that all this is a grey area
There needs to be a RIAA/NBA Players Union type thing for Producers/Songwriters lol so that there’s a default baseline protocol
why would boi 1da go backwards for some pocket change lol
Im sure he’s eating as is but goal of the type beat s*** is like thousands of people paying whatever price for your beat
Its not a bad income stream considering the state of the music industry. Everyone aint drake lol

There was grey areas back in the day too. I used to sell beats in the late 2000s/early 2010s on soundclick and s*** was never structured or cohesive

But back then niggas was still getting the trickle down from CD money
Now we dont even got a real “mainstream” as a concrete place to land lol
Why tf would Boi 1da sell a beat for $250 lmao lets be fr
Because 1000 people across the globe would probably pay him $250 for one of his mid beats
He could do that every day lol
