I don't think Punk alone is the answer tho lol he wasn't moving the needle all that much after his initial debut...the drama, lack of clarity, ROH taking up AEW time, and lack of compelling (and consistent) storytelling lately is more of a factor than Punk not being around IMO

Why would they pass up TV/Advertisement money to put ROH on youtube?

Oh yea, Punk def isn't the main cause in this as it's a plethora of things, ROH, bloated roster, storylines being all over the place, etc.; However, more people soured on The Elite than what's to be believed imo, where a good number of folks tuned into AEW because of Punk. The numbers don't lie, even if it ain't by much.

MJF didn't help either,lol also the crowd in Indiana was basura for most of the night. That kind of plays into the overall experience.

Storylines really need an overhaul too

The start/stop pushes need to stop.
The shelving of hot talent needs to go.
Midcard titles need to be booked better.

I get it’s supposed to draw heat, but it just ends up sounding corny and cheap. Like no one cares that you said another promotion’s name on tv. We’re past those days lol

On the real, American pro wrestling severely struggles with creating stories. Feels like every 4-6 years we get a good one.

The Rush/Preston storyline is a good example.

I get the Andrade injury changed things but instead of striking while the iron is hot he’d rather keep them in the fire and turn a 3 week storyline into a 2 month one.

Jade’s another one. Like I get you want Statlander to beat her for the title but she’s out for 9+ months and you need to keep Jade busy and interesting in the meanwhile instead of a PPV feud and occasional challenges in between.

Tony needs to start pulling triggers. There’s money in having Wardlow take off the seatbelt and start smashing everyone including someone like Mox at Revolution as you build him up to be MJF’s boogeyman. There’s money in making Eddie the antithesis to Max and start building to a big confrontation between the two. But Tony sitting on his thumbs waiting for the right time is gonna hurt his show.

Punk is whatever. He was always likely to self destruct if not with the Elite then with someone else down the line because that’s who he is and his history in multiple companies shows that. Tony needed to have new guys ready to overtake Punk a year in and as we saw the only person he really built like that that wasn’t an ex WWE guy was Max.
