In the movie in my opinion yours could differ. Him repeating the words of the pedophile doesn't seem to be whats affecting him so much as the threat of cheating being publicized. Its not like he is normal at any point in the movie. He is crazy the entire run of the movie acting inhumane ways without morals. not caring about decoys. we never feel a form of conscious. the cheating in reality being retconned to this this movie then making it seems like he fears that coming forward because it would end the show and ruin his marriage. Detracts from the emotional reality of him doing the show catching pedopiles decompressing and doing it again.

The show ran for 3 years in reality. In the movie it feels damn near like one season
