I was reading the 48 Laws Of Power at work, and right before I heard the news… I just finished reading Law 46, which is “Never Appear Too Perfect”… It was talking about how people will really do the dirtiest s*** when they feel envious. Basically said when you’re doing way better than people you need to downplay your success or else it can end up lethal.

The Transgression of the Law was about some British Playwright named Joe Orton. He was a very acclaimed play writer in the 60’s and throughout his career he was dating an older dude named Kenneth Halliwell; who he originally edited plays for, but then Joe started to write his own stuff and ended up being very successful. This drove Kenneth Crazy. They stayed together for years despite Joes success and it gradually mad him more and more upset and his resentment became more and more visable . Joe wanted to end it but because Kenneth bankrolled his early work he felt like he owed him. One night before Joe was set to have a meeting the next day about getting a screenplay he wrote used in a movie with The Beatles, Kenneth bashed his head in 9 times with a hammer, then took a lethal overdose of Pentobarbital.

Way different scenarios, obviously. But the point I’m trying to make is no one really wants to see someone else win. Walking around Compton flexing that hard is a recipe for disaster.
