i just don't know how we could really get a good gauge of the russian popular support for invasion from all the way over here

I guess your argument mostly comes down to this, so I see how youre genuinely curious about it. its hard for the Russian people to really get together and voice their opinion because in the last 10 years the government has been efficiently suppressing protests and making sure protesters' lives become hell during and after the fact. they get severely beaten up and injured, fired from their jobs (or generally cant protest at the risk of getting fired), they then cant leave the country or find another job bc of a criminal record (protesting is more or less a criminal offense in russia), etc. people have to comply simply to keep their jobs, and the market is scarce and its been crisis since 2014. you add a very efficient propaganda and fear mongering machine into that and get a very inconsistent response, at least from the outsider perspective

that said, from what I see people as a whole do not support this war 4th day into the events and especially now that everything is slowly getting disconnected from the outside world. the crisis is ever-going and its apparent people simply wont survive with even more strict economical situation here

finally I could prob find and link you some news of people in the arts, media, and healthcare petitioning to end the war (and subsequently being dismissed from their jobs) but its all going to be in Russian so idk

    i believe

its just, in line with what you say, i try to be skeptical of anything that leaks through to where I can see it in the sense that its surely unrepresentative by virtue of not being repressed like most things. does that make sense?

Legit all I'm saying is that if people want to do cultural boycotts for Israel, I don't see how it's suddenly xenophobic to not allow a country threatening nuclear war to play in a FIFA league.

Goodness inviting people that shouldn’t be in war including releasing criminals that you only respect when they can die for you has to be taken with the upmost seriousness at all times

    yea ofc

so if im here in the west seeing reports of a groundswell of anti-war sentiment in russia, am i seeing it bc its in the interests of the ruling class in my country that i see it?

and even if that is the reason i see it, its surely possible to go too far in skepticism of imperialist propaganda to ignore the extent to which such sentiments are an actual reflection of popular sentiment

basically i try to keep these dueling ideas constantly in perspective

If you think offering guns to civilians and freeing prisoners is a good move to win I do want to know why ? I’m honest not making it a loaded question I want to know why
