I think he would be willing to accept a neutral Ukraine, I don't see why he would want Ukraine to be unstable. No country wants instability at its borders.
I do think that if he goes on and this invasion is successful and he deposes Zelensky he will install a pro-Russian leader tho, at that point there is no reason for him not to do so.
