arming / not arming Ukraine, to their varying extents, will have major ramifications for not only Europe but possibly the whole global order for years to come, its a major f***ing decision to make, why do people itt act like its completely unrelated or that there's a super simple answer?

Assuming that Russia is in the wrong here (which most people itt agree with), or even subscribing to a hypothetical "good guy vs bad guy" dynamic, does that mean that any form of opposition against Russia is justified? Should we just nuke Russia? Obviously not

if aid is sent, which it already has been, how much should we send?

big difference between 200 million in military aid and the "6 billion" proposed by Biden; that's about the same amount that countries such as Sweden, Ukraine, Vietnam, and Romania spend on their military each year.

innocent people are going to die regardless of whether aid is sent or not, and this won't stop until the conflict is properly resolved which probably won't be by Ukraine defeating Russia in
armed combat. so cut the sanctimonious bullshit implying that criticizing the presence of neo-Nazi's is somehow incompatible with caring about the deaths of innocent people

Wow it’s like you finally got it maybe there are no good governments in some wars

It’s almost like I’ve made it absolutely clear that the only people I support are the innocent Russian and Ukrainian people who want to take no part in being the pawns of some capitalist imperialists

What, in your mind, happens to Ukrainian civilians that you care so much about after we stop supporting the Ukrainian military and Russia obliterates them?

Thinking that we should let Nazis have guns and prolong a deadly ass war against a country that’s already on its deathbed because you think the world is a board game for your ideology is even worse

    F*** supporting Nazis.
Every country should just straight bomb russia to teach putin a lesson not to start a war during a global pandemic

These exact questions and answers were made in regards to Afghanistan in the 1980’s and Vietnam in the 1960’s

I think 80s Afghanistan and 20s ukraine are different enough to produce a different outcome

So many more and different variables. Ukrainian neo nazis are nowhere near as well equipped, or numerous as Mujahideen.

And if there will be a day, he will actually gets cornered, then he will for sure press the button cause he's a lunatic

hopefully someone close to him wipes him out before that happens.

if we don’t die from the impact we’ll die in nuclear winter 100%

They’re under an unstable and unpopular Russian puppet government that will basically be trying to do a Vietnamese/Afghanistan 2.0 except much more unable to establish any form of control

The Russian government is massively unpopular in Moscow as we speak and there’s no way any Ukrainian is going to be willing to submit to a Russian puppet once they’re instated

And there’s no way the Russian army is going to be nearly as capable of occupying the region and anyone thinks they are if they can’t even achieve any of the objectives they needed to in the past three days

What if nato allowed Russia to roll over Ukraine and then Putin turned his eyes towards Finland? (as he has implied in his essay) He needs to be pushed out of Ukraine. At the very least he needs to be resisted.

Yes, and Ukraine’s military power and arms sent to them has absolutely nothing to do with Russia being unable to hit their objectives?

    Scratchin Mamba

Or more accurately, now that they invaded it was out the window, but the US refused this before

They justcused Ukraine to weaken Russia, which this war definitely will, same thing as Afghanistan, once again

And the USA did that for Nord Stream 2 to be out of the window too (which is good imo, but very bad for Russia)

I know the reasons the USA did all that is for their own political gain. That's what all these 'superpowers' will keep doing too, and the smaller countries are always f***ed in the end. They gave false hope to Ukraine

At the same time i think France and other NATO countries said Ukraine wasnt going to join. And like i said before, Ukraine couldnt even join NATO. They were in a frozen conflict. There are requirements to join NATO. Putin knows this too, so his only problem is that the Ukranian government is too friendly w Western countries. He def wants something like a 2nd Belarus

his threats to Finland and Sweden seemed like empty threats just for intimidation tbh, there's no way Russia is that stupid or that Russian officials would ok that

thats like woat case scenario and at that point doesnt seem like there would be any way to prevent numerous diff countries getting involved and escalating into something way worse

also, can aid alone prevent Russia from taking Ukraine? not so sure bout that

So many more and different variables. Ukrainian neo nazis are nowhere near as well equipped, or numerous as Mujahideen.

that is not how the Americans looked at this in the 1980’s and I don’t think you even know what mujahideen means

Mujahideen is just a word for “people engaging in jihad.” It was a catch all for the numerous anti communist militias across Afghanistan. The US basically threw money at the Pakistani ISI and said “hey, send money to who you want. They’re fighting the Commies so we’ll just spin them all as freedom fighters.” No questions asked.

And the ISI did just that. They sent money to regional warlords of all shapes sizes and ethnicities. My moms grand uncle was a massive warlord in Qandahar who fought the Russians. They sent money to Pashtun nationalists and non Pashtuns. They also sent money to pan-Islamist militias like those established by CIA asset Osama bin Laden. The militias were nothing in comparison to the warlords in terms of power and influence but they attracted members from all over the Muslim world. And look how it turned out in the long run for them. They became a major factor in Afghan politics because they had the ideological objective to do such that superseded the immediate goals of these warlords looking to protect their villages and provinces

And the mujahid were not United at all. There was infighting. There was ethnic cleansing. There were massacres, nothing that had been happening stopped unless there were communists there.

What’s different between that and the US throwing weapons at the Ukrainian government, saying they’ll spin everyone as a freedom fighter, and then sitting back and putting their feet up?
