Yes and intellectuals are so quick to write these people off who need to be educated, not abandoned. They are the ones who need the most help.
It’s why attitudes like “fuck the south and the red states let’s only worry about blue states” are so damaging because when you have that attitude to the people who need to be enlightened the most, you guarantee they will never listen.
It’s how generations of pro-union blue collar workers have become neo-fascists because the elitist liberals abandoned them. And when their identity politics game stops working and they cant count on minority votes to pull them over the top, they will never be able to reach those lower classes they can help again. And the far right will take over.

Politics is about tribalism my friend not about what’s best for the people

Man said elite, wealthy east coast liberals like a subscription isnt 99 cent

That’s the target audience to buy a NY times subscription. Yes a coal miner in West Virginia could afford it, but he’s not gonna go searching for news in the same way as an east coast elitist will. If you impede access and construct artificial barriers to this information, it will only serve to reaffirm the opinions of those who seek it out, instead of educating others who need it the most.

ok I mostly agree unfortunately we don't know which of the 2 options would work the best because what if the opposing government in Russia and Ukraine fails?

doesn't bring anything rn to speculate on the possible future

but it's hard looking in and not feel the need to help and I feel like most of the people feel that way and that's why we are helping them

I’m saying both must happen simultaneously

Basically Afghanistan in the 80s again or Vietnam etc

Plenty of news organizations survive on ad based models. And when they own things like wordle, they can surely parlay that into funding free access to important news.

The way people consume information has changed and it’s way harder to convince someone to buy an online news subscription than it was to get them to read the newspaper while they drink their morning coffee.

Saudi Arabia bombs hospitals, schools and is starving 400 thousand Yemeni children, the UN says it's the worst humanitarian crisis since WW2

This is literally just denying genocide
