Russian d***suckers will pretend that Russia would’ve done nothing to Ukraine if they never showed interest in NATO. That’s simply propaganda and a reason to justify for invading the country, the real problem is Russias ambition.

Because the USSR was a fundamentally different political structure with different goals and ideas within it
This is a capitalist oligarchy in its death throes trying to hold onto its influence.
When Putin was talking about the USSR in this weeks speech he explicitly missed the Russian primacy over Eastern Europe as was part of the Soviet political model that saw them as the primary socialist force in the world.
This is just employing that primacy in a capitalist, imperialist context the same way as the Russian empire

Its almost as if annexing a country adds to your influence.
