Feb 21, 2022·1 replythis whole time i’ve been on the side of thinking there would be no invasion, and if there is, it would be targeted and small. with the recognition of the separatist enclaves as independent it seems the move is gonna be to invade just those regions of the Donbas to “liberate” them from Ukraine
makes sense because that’s big enough for Putin to claim a win, but not big enough for the West to do anything beyond more sanctions. i just don’t see how he goes much further than that (assuming he does invade to support the enclaves)

And the US reiterated their support for that in 2018

promising and showing support is a big gap between an official invitation, even before all this ukraine was not going to be joining NATO anytime soon because of the frozen conflicts in its borders
