Putin says the invasion is because of NATO posing a threat. except we know NATO doesn't pose a real threat. Putin knows NATO doesn't pose a real threat. NATO won't engineer an invasion of Russia. They are not plotting to take over the Russian state. We know this and Putin knows this.
When he cites that as a reason, we can't just take him at his face value.
again, this is a lot like the US invading Iraq over fears of WMDs. Like we know that wasn't the real reason, even if its what the official reason was.
