having your allies subsidise defence in exchange for hosting a black site here and there is an outstanding deal

Fr. Ask any country if they’d rather have the situation of Poland or Belarus. They’d pick Poland every time

Russia will not, and can not lose this war. It’s the equivalent of Russia arming Mexico or Cuba against the United States. They have the superior military, and would never back down from a war on their border. I don’t really understand why we are supplying Ukraine with weapons instead of trying to promote negotiations

Have you been paying attention? Russia is not capable of meeting any of their strategic objectives

Russia is a nuclear superpower, they are not going to lose a war on their border. Giving Ukraine more weapons and tanks is just escalation of a potential terrible outcome. Why do you think Ukraine shouldn’t negotiate?

My man how is “second best army in world” is year into this war and still hasn’t achieved it’s original objectives? So far they have only lost territories and losing a lot of people in combat

If Russia armed Cuba or Mexico and they attacked U.S, they both would’ve been wiped out from face of this planet within few weeks of not less, U.S military strength is out of this world

Russia could also wipe Ukraine out with the weapons they have but they haven’t yet. Why provoke them

Zelensky has not been willing to negotiate. I can post articles. And we’ve been negotiating with Russia since the Cold War

You mean nukes? if so, they know if they use them it's over for them

NATO clearly stated that if Russia decides to nuke Ukraine then NATO will retaliate

Plus Russia already literally wiped out few Ukrainian towns from shelling, they are terrorists

You’re right, you convinced me that a proxy war with Russia is good.

You realize that Russia is not going to stop at Ukraine? Why do you think all the former soviet countries like Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia are fully supporting Ukraine and provide as much aid as they can?

Russian are openly saying they want their tanks to reach Berlin

first you've made a wack ass a***ogy for the treacherous invasion in ukraine and now this. you're spraying all these fallacies for a weak excuse of a joke or just being dimwitted?

i mean it just shows how you're actually interested in this conversation

Why is it not a good a***ogy? Would the United States let Russia arm Mexico or Cuba? Yes or no?

It seems pretty logical that they should negotiate maybe I’m wrong

US is a high speed bullet train with no brake. I know it’s annoying to witness but you just gotta let em go until it inevitably ends in a disaster like it always does the past few decades. And then after that they won’t take any learning lessons and will apply the same logic to China. There’s no convincing otherwise

If Ukraine suffers difficulties the only way our officials brains operate is to send MORE weapons. People don’t really care about the major losses (economy, population, industries, losing a generation of young men, etc…) as much as they care about Russia narratives

Negotiations rn would be a nightmare scenario compared to what they coulda been in Istanbul last March. You’d have to actually concede Russian victories which NATO isn’t yet prepared for

Imagine your neighbor invades your house and occupies few of the rooms. He then also continues to assault you and damage your other rooms. You want to negotiate and end this but he will only negotiate if he gets to keep the rooms he occupies unlawfully without any repercussions, are you still going to negotiate?

It seems like your information is out of date. Russia is not a superpower, their only leverage comes from the nuclear threat. Their military wouldn't even be top 5 in Europe. Arming Ukraine allows them to put up a better effort leading to more leverage in negotiations if it goes that way, or of course potential outright victory. It's also weird that you view arming them and them negotiating as mutually exclusive.

Did anybody really expect Russia to just streamroll Ukraine because they're a "top military" power?

I mean.. if you're following the war..Russia isn't just carpet bombing whole cities, then cleaning it up.

Ukraine has NATO weapons, are well-trained, and have well fortified defensive positions. They are also on their home turf. The United States would have the same problems Russia is having if they took the same approach.

You can't just call in the airplanes and send in the tanks like this a Call of Duty game to quickly win the war.

pretty revisionist, yes plenty of ppl thought Russia would roll through without much trouble, just as plenty of ppl thought an invasion of this magnitude was unlikely to happen in the first place

fair to say most were unaware of how lacking in quality Russia's personnel and equipment are

would've been a sharp comment to make a year ago, not so much now.
