  • Jan 26, 2022

Yeah and they would never waste nukes on this. There’s no ideological enthusiasm anymore like there was in ‘62. The point was proven then. Now it’s just capital expansion and influence. Nukes make for too much uncertainly in the markets

It is from their perspective. It all is perspective tho and i don't think it's a legitimate threat.

Russia also already has NATO countries at their borders. And they mostly joined NATO cause of the fear of a Russian invasion.

This Russian strategy might actually not be it, since other non-NATO countries see this too and they actually drive them into the arms of NATO

The only NATO countries bordering Russia right now are also completely encircled and could be taken over by Russia in 36 hours max

Ukraine isn't that, this would really be an existential threat

If you followed the US throughout the years, you'd understand that if they want a war somewhere there will be a war somewhere

I trust the state dept more than the actual ukrainian govt on this, there is a reason why the CIA is there

They have the same imperialist aspirations yes but they don't have the same imperialist power over other nations like the West

can someone catch me up to speed on this

Essentially Russia in classic brinkmanship style built up a lot of troops across Ukraine’s borders in protest of attempts to join NATO and the EU

Obviously the EU and NATO responded in kind by sending anti tank weapons and special personnel to Ukraine. Obviously this buildup was something Russia was gambling against (maybe they weren’t planning for war though?) since Ukraine was lacking in anti tank capabilities

Now it’s effectively a stalemate but there was far more assumption of an inevitable conflict outside of the Ukraine than within it, and this growing fear of war basically tanked the economy as assets were removed from the country
